It depends on if you think OHST would let him leave or offer same or more money. Make an offer high enough to get his interest and let how shop that price around. Best case scenario, OHST pays him more and depletes some of their money for other players. Worst case scenario, we end up with a world class proven at the highest level receiver.Because that's an insane amount of money to give a WR, even one of Smith's caliber. Only college players who should garner that kind of money right now are stud QBs, truly elite edge rushers, and maybe elite OTs (but probably not).
I don't worry about what a player makes, but failing to take the impact of one players pay into account for team dynamics and the feasibility of retaining your other players is relevant. Cost benefit is what i speak too when I say 4.5 is too much.Smith is the best player in college football. He is worth whatever someone wants to pay him. Never understand why people worry about salaries. Good for the kid if someone pays him.
I would like to apologize to my black friends on here for this dude dropping a slur...Wonder how many of the Negas that have been crying, beeching, and complaining for the last month have figured out how VERY important it was to spend the bulk of our time and money RETAINING all those ~50 bluechip guys we have on our OWN roster before we started worrying about paying new players to come here now that they see Notre Dame being taken apart in the portal???
Imagine the sheitshow VN would be if OUR starting Center, Tackle, Guard that started 7 games(played in 13), and 1 of our leading WRs were ALL being taken away by other teams? It would be the end of the world for some of these guys. We lost nobody of consequence that will hurt our team next year. ND offense is being dismantled. We take a lot of things for granted IMO. As usual looks we we are gonna close strong in the portal too and shore up some weaknesses in the roster. As usual CJH and staff have UT set up to be a good team now and especially in the future.
