Not really. Outside NIL is not going to be heavily controlled no matter what the NCAA thinks. These guys better get paid before the new NIL structure starts on July 1. Universities will be allowed to give $20.5 Million across all their student athletes and it's supposed to be based off a formula devised by a committee who will have to approve excessive NIL amounts.
It's gonna go back to boosters paying players under the table again unless a miracle happens.
Probably flush with cash coming off a national title. Cant believe they’re pouring that much into Tate though. Smith kind of makes sense bc he’s probably the best offensive player in college football now. They're singlehandedly inflating the market for all these players. Last year it was their $20 million roster. Now overpaying for 2 receivers. You would think they wouldn't behave like a small team scared of losing their only attraction.
You can't bring logic in here. It will just go over the heads of most on this site. Now, go stand in the corner until you figure out what you've doneThe young guys are Staley and Matthews.
The plan was to redshirt Staley from the beginning. Matthews didn’t pay early because he dealt with an injury which slowed his progress. By the Vandy game, I believe he had passed Nimrod. He had definitely passed Webb.
They were freshman. They will be better. Plenty of great WRs don’t play as freshman over guys who they later pass. Peerless Price had just 6 catches and was behind Nilo Silvan and Benji Shuler as a freshman. Who ended up better?
To highlight your point, and staying with the now defending National Champions, this is what they are returning next year with career production:It’s almost like that’s the way college football works. Starters leave and have to be replaced by inexperienced younger players.
How did we miss on Tate? He never entered the portalGuys, I am disappointed that we missed on Tate. I thought he would drastically improve the WR room. And btw, for all of those who kept saying that Carnell Tate wasn't the "splash guy" and that we were dreaming so to speak, you were wrong, even though he ended up staying at OSU. Also, I do believe in our guys at WR we have now. And the reason they didn't play wasn't because of the talent level, it was because they planned on redshirting, were injured, or were just inexperienced. With that being said, they have a year now in the system in relation to Brazzell, MM, and Stayley. I'm sure Boo has a good jump on things since he has had to go against our offense in practice. And with Jefferson, Smith, Jackson, and Dodson, I'm pretty sure the coaching staff will stress the importance of them getting a grasp of the offense early if they want to play. So I would assume that those guys will make it a point to delve into the playbook and learn as much as possible before the start of the season. Again, I hate we missed on Tate. He would have helped. But I'm confident in what we have at this point and we could possibly end up with another big name WR in the spring if we decide to go after one. I believe that OSU will take a step back this year and Tate is gonna regret not joining the good guys as we make another run at the CFP!!
.Not really. Outside NIL is not going to be heavily controlled no matter what the NCAA thinks.
They have no teeth to demand outside NIL be "sanctioned" or "reviewed" as they've been told repeatedly in court cases. They'll lose the first challenge and the schools will have the "inside" $20M and whatever outside NIL from the boosters too.
Quit bringing facts into this.Ohio State came into this season with the these scholarship WRs:
Emeka Egbuka(SR)-124 career catches
Carnell Tate(SO)-18 career catches
Jayden Ballard(SR)-9 career catches
Brandon Inniss(SO)-1 career catch
Kojo Antwi(JR)-1 career catch
Damarion Witten-0 career snaps
Jeremiah Smith(FR)-0 career snaps
Bryson Rodgers(FR)-0 career snaps
Mylan Graham(FR)-0 career snaps
It seemed to work out relatively well for them. Of this group, only Egbuka, Tate, Smith, and to a much lesser extent Inniss had any meaningful playing time this season. They also had 4 WRs who had never played a college snap.
For comparison, this is what we have going into next season and considering we may still add another WR to the group:
Chris Brazzell(JR)-74 career catches
Mike Matthews(SO)-7 career catches
Braylen Staley(FR)-3 career catches
Amari Jefferson(FR)-0 career snaps
Travis Smith(FR)-0 career snaps
Radarious Jackson-0 career snaps
Joakim Dodson(FR)-0 career snaps
Boo Carter(SO)-0 career snaps at WR
They don’t believe what they are saying it’s just their shtick!"Nuts"is quite right, but in a different context. If you look at the complainers, it is a subset of the same 5 to 6 people that come running with their negativity at any opportunity. And it validates my ignore list choices by the fact all of them are already on my list.
I don't know how any of those folks make it through a day if they have this same outlook in their personal lives.
This is all good and stuff, but they are literally bringing back the best player in college football lolTo highlight your point, and staying with the now defending National Champions, this is what they are returning next year with career production:
QB-Julian Sayin(SO)-5 of 12 for 84 yards and 1TD
RB-James Peoples(SO)-49 carries for 197 yards and 2 TDs
RB-CJ Donaldson(SR) 3* WV transfer-421 carries for 2,058 yards and 30 TDs
TE-Bennett Christian(SR)-2 catches for 61 yards and a TD
TE-Max Klare(JR) 4* Purdue transfer-73 catches for 881 yards and 4 TDs
WR-Jeremiah Smith(SO)-76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 TDs
WR-Carnell Tate(JR)-70 catches for 997 yards and 5 TDs
WR-Brandon Inniss(JR)-15 catches for 234 yards and 2 TDs
WR-Bryson Rodgers(JR)-5 catches for 46 yards and 0 TDs
All their other skill position players either have barely seen the field or have 0 career college snaps.
