We benefit more from a lack of salary cap. Tennessee has support/money
You just can't do it. It would be like telling NFL players they couldn't do commercials or other licensing opportunities. Agree we benefit from the current structure but there's just no legal workaround to capping NIL. The ruling that established it was legal, also established you cannot limit it. You're thinking about Tennessee here but think for a second more broadly towards what this might do to the rest of the landscape where only a handful of schools have legitimate chances to win championships. Eventually it is going to occur to fans of these 'have nots' that they are wasting their time and energy. Not all of them, but it will have an effect.

If we were to get a RB, this is definitely the one. Considering I live in Ark, this would be great “payback”. They really should’ve played him more this year.
No.
Every back that has transferred has been a power back.

There’s simply no use for them in this offense.

Tee Hodge 6’1 235
Dee Beckewith 6’4 230
Whithead 6’2 235
Keith 6’1 235
Williams 6’0 215

None of them ever challenged for serious carries.

Meanwhile
Wright 6’0 195 (2,300 career yards)
Sampson 5’11 190 ( 2,500 career yards)
Small 5’11 200 ( 1800 career yards)

It’s pretty obvious Heupel has a type and big power backs aren’t a part of that equation.

Elarbee: "Here's your offer, kid. Would love to have you."
Moe: "You mean it?! I can come to Tennessee?!"
Elarbee: "Yep!"
Callahan: "The Vols are not recruiting Moe."
Callahan:

finger-wag-no.

College football is a freaking clown show. And people made fun of Saban for retiring. lol. Imagine having to deal with diva crap like this every year.

It’s better this way than allowing decade + dynasties to make the sport boring. Parity will always be the number 1 healthy thing for college football

Add UCF history to that. Greg McRae, Otis Anderson, Adrian Killins were all small backs.

Hope not. I hope we pay up, but at what point do we hit the ceiling? We can't just continue to drop bigger bags to every good player, so I guess we will have to make some tough choices.

Yep. There’s an unofficial salary cap that we just won’t have the funds to go beyond. Hypothetically, if Nico walks in Heupel’s door tomorrow saying he wants another million bucks, does Nico walk or do we give in and lose someone else (like a Boo or McCoy)? Not saying that has happened or will happen, but it’s illustrative of the kinds of decisions that have to be made.

The most frustrating thing about it all to me is watching players enter the portal and skip out on the playoffs. They could still play in the playoffs and hit the road afterwards. Feel like some of them who enter the portal and choose not to play will regret not taking advantage of that experience a few years down the road.

I didn't expect to lose two receivers to the portal but probably should have. The great thing about the receiver position is there's usually a plethora of talent available any given year in the portal. But Webb and Nimrod are leaving, not because of money, but because they don't see themselves ever putting up big numbers on this roster. Meaning, we probably are not going to aim high for a WR1 or 2 in the portal this year. We've got a great situation at the position and just want to make sure we maintain depth.
