If you pick up a top tier WR who are you willing to lose Brazzell or Matthews? It’s going to basically be a trade at that point. Will be interesting to see if we bring Boo over to WR if we find ourselves in the situation we did this year several times with several starters dinged up. What’s gonna happen then? If this staff is “good” with losing 4 WRs and don’t feel the need to replace, then I can’t wait to see what they do if some get hurt during the season heaven forbid. This certainly isn’t a compete with the elite mindset of setting yourself up to win championships. Hopefully they pick up at least another to tier WR like we did with Thornton and Brazzell.
So hard to evaluate players in the triple-option systems. I’ll have to go back and find some guys that came from them and moved to P5 schools and see how they did.He ran for 108 yards as a freshman against ranked LSU. Averaged 5.1 yards per carry.
Add in the fact that Army was pretty bad last year and LSU went 10-2….makes it more impressive.
I agree about the evaluation being tricky. One note: Pre-portal teams that abandon the triple option like GT give you a chance to compare how players from that system work in more traditional offenses, and the GT guys did fine.So hard to evaluate players in the triple-option systems. When you think about it there is not much difference. With the triple option you have dive, pitch as compared to our RPO driven offense of dive, pass. The QB running is the 3rd option for both.I agree about the evaluation being tricky. It would seem like protection, timing, ball path, and lots of other things would be adjustments. There’s no question about his athleticism.
Cam Seldon has -going back from his junior year in HS- has never been available the entirety of the year.Lol whatever dude. Read the forums. You are not gonna twist my words. I said he was serviceable meaning he can play. But he is not a number 1 type back in this league. If you disagree that is fine. The difference is he has played the position his entire life basically. Where as the kid who is leaving was the number 2 because he was better or at least our coaches believed that to be the case. Injuries prevented his growth. But the talent level was there to be the guy.
Solid take on that whole situation.Bishop is a natural bell cow that broke Henry's rushing record in HS with like 6,000 total yards and a milion TDs. He isnt quite as fast as Sampson, but he hits the correct hole very quickly with total abandon and runs over people when necessary. He is very good at getting the "plus 2" yards after contact that RB coaches squawk about constantly. He has good vision, lateral quickness, burst, and speed. He is very good at everything, but maybe not quite "great" when it comes to straight line speed. He will alternate drives with PLewis as RB1 next season IMO...and he has earned that. The hard way. Looked good in SEC competition this year.
As far as being "high mileage" thats a legitimate claim. I have said all year that for him to get surgery early last season and have a full year of great medical care, nutrition, rest, and SandC coaching is the best thing that could have possibly happened for him. Its the reason why he is a battering ram today despite not being a big back. The dude is just 100% RB, naturally, and obviously got some good coaching growing up. I love Bishop and absolutely believe he can run for 7 to 800 yards next season splitting carries with PLewis and could be close to a 1000yd back if he stays healthy and Lewis gets hurt at any point. The kid is tough as nails, a hometown kid that is all VOL. I am a big fan and hope he has a breakout year next year. Sampson was a 3* guy...it isnt all about star ratings from HS.
*** to my knowledge he has also never fumbled the ball away in Orange. Another RB whose name I will not mention cost himself probably a cool $million or more over his 3 year rookie contract fumbling in 4 games this season after going over 250? Carries without ever fumbling in his career.
Some people “jumped all over you” not because they thought you’re wrong, but because it’s rude to say stuff like that when a person’s family member is on the board.Cam Seldon has -going back from his junior year in HS- has never been available the entirety of the year.
Look at his stats in MaxPreps if you don't believe me
This 6'2 220 lb kid that ran 4.4, had 900 total yards as a senior in 1A Virginia.
Lewis had 2,000 rush yards alone in 4A Virginia.
People jumped all over me when I said Cam Seldon will NOT practice in Knoxville come Spring 2025. I didn't mean transfer necessarily. I meant he would find some reason to NOT BE AVAILABLE. That's his history! 4 years of injuries?????? How many excuses are you going to keep making for him?
PERHAPS HE SHOULDN'T PLAY FOOTBALL?
People are sad because he's 6'2 220 4.3 speed.
I couldn't care less about any of that. Because it damn sure hasn't helped Tennessee at all. Yet here we are IN THE PLAYOFFS.
If the family member doesn’t want to read a fan observation then they shouldn’t be on here. I don’t think there is anything classless about trying to make sense of what happened with Cam. People jumped down his throat because they wanted cam to be great and weren’t ready to think about him not working out. Some people “jumped all over you” not because they thought you’re wrong, but because it’s rude to say stuff like that when a person’s family member is on the board.
Yes, “they knew what they were signing up for” and you need thick skin to play in the SEC, but being negative towards a player in front of their family is classless.
You need to go back and read every post @LittleVol has written about Cam. It’s all unnecessary bashing, and he was proud he was right about Bishop, and he’s proud now that he was right about Seldon. It’s his childish “I told you so” attitude. Everything he’s said is only serving to make himself feel good about being rightIf the family member doesn’t want to read a fan observation then they shouldn’t be on here. Never said that he wasn’t. Just that 6.2 ypc doesn’t always mean the same thing across all situations / systems and that I’m curious to see what’s happened to other backs coming out of similar offenses.Don’t overthink it: West Point = discipline, 6.2 yards per carry, 10 TDs, 218 lbs. TAKE.
Isn’t how it works? What are you talking About? The scenario you describe isn't even how it works, to start with. Plus, we don't know whether Sampson is or isn't returning. There's not a clear path to starting with him here. Not for any of the other RBs. People always think they know what these transfers are thinking when they aren't in their shoes and can't possibly.
