We need to be tampering harder like some of these other teams
You are privy to the amount of back channel communication our coaching staff has with players on other teams? Dude, that is awesome. I would love to see where you find that information. Did you find it by asking one of the new AI programs? If it is really that easy to find our coaches need to start doing a much better job of being secretive about that communication.

Unsure how reliable but from Reddit:

Insiders who know, answer me this...what would stop a team or coach from a program tha wanted to wreak havok on another program from reaching out to various key players and offering them higher than market value at key positions to enter the portal just to get the current program to overpay to keep the player and subsequently lowering their overall purchasing power for the next recruiting class?

he hasnt left yet
He kind of has. He won't be involved in workouts or spring ball. He has tarnished an opportunity to show leadership and instead became an employee who got a raise and after learning a coworker is on maternity/paternity leave is demanding another raise two months later. It's ridiculous behavior. Dude just put himself on the chopping block. Call the bluff and tell him to pack his **** from the locker room and facilities, enjoy being an average student this semester.

still hasnt left, moran.

when i was talking about kids getting close to million dollar offers and people were like "show us the proof"

this is what im talking about. Not even our best cornerback is getting $500-600,000 offer to leave. The market to overspend is there. It's going to devastate the sport.

don't get me wrong i want players to get paid, equitably. Hell, I want us all to get paid!!, The boss man makes too much.

but we have to get some collective bargaining and rules set up around contracts... otherwise this becomes a shtshow
Maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to make more than the NFL league minimum, and if you do you have to go pro, thats what 240k. Kinda of capping college and encouraging staying where you think will give you the best development before going to the league. Still a salary most joes would sell a finger/toe for.

Pay him what is necessary and lets move on. staff didnt pursue anyone in fall porthole, and havent recruited anyone else. this is on them.
You can't do that. You'd be paying him more than Boo and McCoy possibly. Then you have to pay them more. Then you have to give everyone a raise for the adjusted inflation.

It's kinda diabolical if you're on a rival team. Just offer their guys some insane money to hit the portal to throw their their whole market off

i think the lack led any porthole movement will come back to haunt us

He's not with the team in team activities and can no longer be a player that fills the leadership void in the db room. He's removed. Can he return? Sure. But he created a ceiling for himself that is lower than it was two days ago.
Gonna be pretty funny when this new team doesn't offer a contract near where they said they were. Which I genuinely hope happens.

I think we will pick up an extra in the spring now, but this is an opportunity to move Boo out to CB and you have Beasley and McMurray to work with until McCoy returns. Maybe those two are good enough to move Boo back to S or Star after McCoy is back.

At Star, find the best guy to play that position between the remaining DBs and I think you're solid. Jakobe Thomas will have a safety spot. Jourdan Thomas may have the other but he could play Star. Farooq, Slaughter, or one of the young CBs could play there.

The real shame is that we lost Christian Harrison who could've been the CB or Star now that Gibson is virtually gone.

Moving Boo to an outside CB spot is not an “opportunity.” That’s not his natural position. He’s perfect for the Star. We need another true outside CB to step up or transfer in…probably both.

Kaleb Beasley is the prime candidate to step up. Not sure where you go to bring in a solid CB in the spring portal, but we need to find one.

gotta sign him again. didn't sign any transfers, and two guys coming in are freshman.
This doesn’t make sense Jack. McCoy wasn’t injured and Gibson had agreed to a new deal during portal season. Who are these good corners we should have signed to sit on the bench? We had other priorities. Coaches crystal ball should have known McCoy would get hurt and Gibson was a POS extortionist?

2024 Class (entering year 2)
Kaleb Beasley - 4 star and 18th rated CB in class
Edrees Farooq - 3 star, 71st rated S in class
Jalen McMurray - transfer from Temple with 1 year left

2025 Class (incoming year 1)
Tre Poteat - 4 star and 43rd rated CB in class
Tyler Redmond - 3 star and 49th rated CB in class
Timothy Merritt - 3 star and 58th rated CB in class
Dylan Lewis - 3 star and 67th rated CB in class

DB has the been weakest part of our recruiting.

LUCKILY, we seem to develop pretty well in that area and we’ve had great help from our DL providing pressure, that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

McMurray is good enough.

The problem is, he is the ONLY guy with any experience now lol

Just horrible luck.

Need someone in the portal for depth at least.

I'll feel OK with healthy McCoy and McMurray starting by UGA.

Ricky is a damn idiot. Like how much more money is he gonna even get? 100k more maybe? But it's like dude...you get to play behind an elite defense line on a top 10 program in the SEC. Every thing is lined up for him to have a big year before next year's draft. Literally couldn't ask for a better situation.

The people in some of these kids circles couldn't be more short sighted.

Probably grab a guy who wasn't good enough to win a starting job at his current school so we'll likely take a step back. I'd rather do that and go with the guys already on the roster than to give in and pay Gibson tho.

Acting like "getting $100K more" won't affect the decision-making of an 18-22 year old, lol? It would affect most 22-80 year olds. That is significant money. Does that mean that sometimes when they weight their options it might be best to take a little less money for a better situation, yes for sure. But $100K more money is significant. If someone offered me a job today that paid $100K more next year than my current salary I would have an awfully hard time turning it down. And I am settled into my house with a child. A college football player does not have to worry about selling and buying a house and making their kids change schools.

It is what it is with the current rules. It sucks for fans no doubt. Gotta suck a lot for coaches too. They have to regulate the system.
