I mean yall can dismiss it if you like. But ON3 is one of the more reputable sources. It would not be a good look, or good for your team for your Battle Captain to abandon ship before Spring. Doesnt make sense, but does any of this make sense?

Not sure where they got this information from but I’m with you. Not sure they would put this info out for no reason. Hopefully it’s misinformation not just for o ur sake, but Nicos as well. Nico doesn’t strike me as someone that would want this, and it’s just distraction. I think he’s poised to take a huge step this coming season, starting to get concerned someone in his life is being a bit too involved. Let’s see what news comes out

AP back in January said they essentially had to talk him off the ledge to keep him from going to Miami. You mean to tell me 3+ months later they never came to an agreement and negotiations are ongoing?

Just feels like AP is trying to save face for Tennessee. Definitely feels to me like you insinuated, someone in his circle is back trying to leverage more money.

Almost certainly an agent driving this with the rising market value of QBs. The other option could be when his family expressed concern about the lack of receiver talent in the last portal window. But it sounds like Travis smith and radarious Jackson have been great, and Nico and Matthews have had a great connection this offseason. But who knows what's going on

Tennessee has a Cupboard full of Quarterbacks.

Duke just paid 8m over 2 years to Mensah from Tulane, who produced a pretty similar season as Nico, except Nico did it vs SEC competition and Mensah did it vs AAC competition.

Nico is in a position where his ability to make money could either be taken completely away from him the next snap he takes due to injury, or greatly lessened due to injury.

There is 0 reason for him to look out for anything more than his and his family's well being. Should get every cent he can, and based on the market, he's currently underpaid.

We should call his bluff. Or at best give him an incentive laden deal.

Argument can be made he’s been overpaid thus far.

I mean, what options does he have at this point? He and his family want to go to the NFL next year. All the good teams are settled at qb. So is he gonna leave us and go to a bad team and learn a new offense? Will that really put him in a better position to get to the league?

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of this, I just think someone is pressuring Nico into these negotiations, most likely a family member. It is indeed the state of the sport atm. I just think if it was purely up to Nico he’d be content with his original deal and just focused on getting to work. Just that type of vibe I get.

Terrible idea. This fanbase still doesn’t understand how good he was at times last season despite having a struggling oline or mediocre WR play. But I also get where you’re coming from. Jumping around isn’t the best way to get you prepared for the NFL imo.

This has worked out for us every single time a very valuable Tennessee player has "negotiated" for more NIL. Arion Carter, Ricky Gibson, Boo Carter, Mike Matthews, etc. I'm pretty certain he'll be back next season, but something has to be done to prevent this in the future. They've gotta do something about third parties negotiating on behalf of other teams to avoid "tampering". It is absolutely rampant and I'm growing tired of it.

It’s agent driven or a family member pushing said agent/Nico. I just don’t believe this is Nico. Nico has put in a ton of work to become the main leader of this team, he never wanted to leave last portal opening, but did have valid concerns about WR play. Once him and his family were sold on the plan, they bought in pretty easily imo and Nico got to work. Reports haven’t been shy about saying how Nico is carrying himself much better and looks overall better, reports also haven’t been shy about WRs looking pretty good…seems like a situation an agent would use to their advantage unfortunately.

I mean, even at Georgia, Texas, and OSU you still have to hit the receiver. They are good but they dont have damn rockets and stilts.
