Possible New Player for 2010- LSU Signee, OG Elliott Porter

Agreed I took 18 hours three different time and only made 2 B's the rest were A's. Maybe hard for him but I would say 60-70% of college students could do what he has to do to get in.

My school has 4.0 credit hours per class, and you are allowed 18 per semester. You are charged a fee if you take over 18 cred. hours per semester. It is normal to take 4 classes a semester (16 total). However, most state schools have 3.0 credit hour classes. It is normal to take, again, 4 classes a semester. So, you are telling us that you took 6 classes three different times within a semester? I, for some reason, doubt that. I hope you mean over two semesters which during a normal school year is not hard at all (3 classes a semester).

BUT, Brown has to do this in a summer. I don't know if you've ever taken summer classes, but it is class everyday for approx. 1 hour and 30 min each class. There is no way he is handling (Brown) 6 classes in a summer. No way. If its a 4.0 credit system, still, no way he is going to be able to take 4+ classes in a summer.

I'm trying to look at this from his perspective. He is probably not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I don't care if he's taking math 101 basic algebra or English 101, etc., etc. It is without a doubt going to be extremely difficult for him.

UT primarily has 3 hour courses. In order to graduate on time, you have to average 15 hours per semester. 15 hours = 5 classes. So taking 18 hours is only one extra class and is fairly commonplace.

Summer school at UT is broken into two sessions. I would assume he is taking 3 classes first session and 3 classes second session to total 18 hours. I have taken plenty of summer classes at UT, and I can tell you they are not terribly taxing...

Nope 18 hours in a single semester on 3 separate instances. I double majored in Accounting and Finance and needed 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA exam. So yes, I took six 3-credit hour courses in 3 separate semesters. One or two night classes in those semesters.

Remember that Brown is taking 18 hours in two semesters, not all at the same time. He has 3 classes in the first summer session and 3 classes in the second summer session I believe.

Accounting and finance? Oh god lol. I'm impressed you stayed awake (no offense I'm sure you are banking or close it, salary wise. Not career). I'm marketing so I just have to sit through the basics.

I see. My main point was, looking at the situation from Brown's perspective, it's not as easy as one may think. He is out of JC for a reason. He probably couldn't qualify academically in the first place. So, taking 18 hours over two semesters, 3 classes per semester, probably isn't the easiest thing to accomplish considering he most likely has very low standardized exam scores.

On another note, I doubled in Econ and Business. I'm actually just finishing up two accounting courses right now (done Friday; courses - audit and federal taxation). I graduated with probably 20 more hours than necessary to graduate. I'm getting my M.S. in accounting, and will take the CPA next year. So, good to know there are other aspiring accountants on here. :hi:

Is the Jackson in question Martaze (because of an ACT score) or Malik (because of credits and the SEC transfer rules)?

don't have time to read all the posts, right now....sorry. any news on this guy?? kentucky boards are saying he is a wildcat.

Really? I have friends that live in Jackson and Lexington and a lot of them, their friends, and family went to Ole Miss... or if they stayed in-state chose UT-Martin.

i know exactly what you mean but going to a school and calling it home are different. i went to ut-martin...never missed a vol game on saturday...missed plenty skyhawk games. when i was there, they started playing their games on thursday to help with student turnout.

also, you have to consider that memphis to knoxville is a 6 to 7 hour drive with an hour gain on top of that. ole miss is a 2 hour drive max...same with martin...it is max 3 hours from memphis. geography has a lot to do with west tennesseans going to schools other than UT.

Oversigning needs to stop. This kid committed to LSU over a year ago. He was nothing but loyal and this is how Miles treats him. Pathetic.

I agree. That probably killed this kid to have this happen. Houston nutt is a piece of crap for forcing the SEC to make this rule.

I thought Ogre had more to do to with this oversighning rule. Oh well whoever did it SCREW THEM.

per Justin Hopkins...Oregon is no longer considering him. It's between Kentucky and Texas A&M

I would much rather play at Ky. Wish our situation was where we could take him. The NCAA rules suck for a team in our position.
