Possible Replacement For Serrano?

Arguably the best class of players we had was last years crop that got drafted, Simcox, Owenby, Stewart, Lee and Marks. Bill Mosiello had a big hand in recruiting those guys.....TCU has done quite well since his arrival.

Agree. Mosiello did a nice job. My only issue there was why did he leave? He and Serrano go way back. With his background I figured he would stay here until he got a head job somewhere.

Burgy and he clashed and Burgy won, IMO.

You kind of look at that pretty simple...don't ya think?

Yes I am. And I'm actually a pretty analytical person. Ultimately the biggest decision maker in UT athletics is Dave Hart. Most AD's don't know baseball so their decisions regarding baseball can be flawed. Mike Hamilton totally showed his ignorance in hiring Todd Raleigh. Dave Hart has to be talking to someone on the outside about the baseball situation.

I think we're getting a little funky with the record fellows...

Logan Moore

Sal Romano

Jake Rowland

Blake Thomas

Joseph Vanderslice

PARKER WORMSLEY

*Robbie Kidd

*Jason Manis

*Conner Stevens

*might be leaving out a JUCO or two

Second Class

TAYLOR SMART

Tyler Smith

CHRISTEN STEWART

Matt Esparza

Michael Flax

DEREK LANCE

Heath Loyd

JEFF MOBERG

Aaron Quillen

Third Class

BRET MARKS

HUNTER MARTIN

Josh Peterson

Andrew Plunkett

Ralph Ramirez

JORDAN ROGERS

KYLE SERRANO - If he didn't get drafted high enough he was coming here

Jammer Strickland

NICK SENZEL

Forrest Bramlett

ERIC FREEMAN

I'm certainly leaving out some JUCO guys in the last two classes...but as you can see that first class rivals Kiffin's in terms of actual production.

After that, we still missed on too many players, not blaming anyone, it's just true.

Feel free to tell me who I missed and correct me, I'll edit it.

My point was that any coach brings his staff. Let's get out of the realm of baseball.

When Butch Jones was hired he was going "to assemble the best staff in college football." And many were disappointed when he basically brought his entire Cincinnati staff to Knoxville...and many were complaining they wouldn't be able to recruit...seems silly now doesn't it. Of course he's gotten rid of both Coordinators since then too.

Of course Serrano brought his staff, they had been successful every where they'd been and when he needed to make a change he has...Just like Jones.

The last thing a coach moving up the ladder does is get rid of the guys that helped get him there...no one would want to work for him.

Good analogy regarding Butch and his staff. Not at all saying Serrano was not a logical hire, but it's interesting that in baseball you rarely see guys hired from all the way across the country. I can't think of any of the California schools ever hiring a baseball coach from this part of the country. I know Arizona St hired Pat Murphy from Notre Dame and more recently Tracy Smith from Indiana. Both of those guys are alpha dogs and can fit in anywhere. There is a lot of arrogance among baseball people on the west coast regarding their level of baseball. I think Serrano underestimated what it was going to take to turn UT around and I think Bergeron was definitely in the arrogant crowd.

It's a bit different in that CDS had spent two years working here as an assistant to Delmonico. He wanted the Job that Raleigh got when he was at Irvine and he ended up getting it the second time around because the program was in shambles and he'd taken two different teams to the CWS in that time. He was by far the MOST qualified candidate that we know interviewed for the job. Burke had never coached, still hasn't, and Holbrook had never been a head coach and was in line to replace Tanner at SC.

In addition Hamilton was on his way out and Cronan took over at the end of the search, so not only was he qualified...under the circumstances, it was a no brainer. If one looks up the MOU, Cronan signed it. Technically, she made the hire, but Hamilton had laid the ground work and probably wished he'd gone that route the first time around...especially since Raleigh attempted to black mail the AD on his way out. What a piece of work the guy was.

The 2 assistant coaches we have now are great IMO

how long have they been here ? yes I'm way behind of following baseball :)

do you think it would be a good idea to keep them and see if CDS can weather the storm ?

from what little I have watched of the baseball team,it just seems to be a lack of talent, not coaching

if they keep CDS he needs to have a long extension, not a 1 year or 2 year one, that will hurt his chances of recruiting,or so I think

I say go with a 4 year deal and keep the buy out low,so that he knows the heat is on,which I'm sure he all ready knows

I seen that video, that was tuff to watch,he does seem to bleed Orange and he is a great guy and coach

Going to start hearing a lot of buzz about what a great job Greg goff has done at la tech if you follow the national guys.

Unreal rags to riches story at Cambell and now at La tech for him. He beat rice last night for the 2nd time on the weekend and almost assures a regional birth. He's quickly becoming my favorite choice if there is a change

This guy knows how to rebuilt a program from the ashes and do more with less than any one out there IMO

Not that it's a huge factor, but Goff was born and raised in Jackson, TN. I'll say this about the guy he has won everywhere he's been and looking at his resume, he has probably recruited every nook and cranny of the south.

Yes he has and the most important thing to me is what he has done in not so ideal places. I think he is at the top of my realistic wish list

Yeah. Very impressive body of work.

I just LOOOOVE how the UTSports YouTube page doesn't have highlights for the road games. Just another way this university sweeps the diamond sports under the rug. There's no excuse for them to not get a camera and be able to do a highlight reel for all the games.

I don't think I want to hire a coach from La Tech....

Question for the board:

If UT and CDS make a deep run in the SEC Tournament, does Hart give CDS a new contract?

2012 Lost to Bama, Auburn, Bama and MSU

2013 Lost to MSU twice, FSU

2014 Won a series versus Arkansas, Lost to MSU, LSU, Auburn

2015 Beat Bama, and MSU. Lost to Arky

2016 Beat UGA, Bama, Auburn. Lost to MSU.

I tried to follow

What does this mean?

Lol

I still can't figure it out but I am well into my cups tonight

Wow, color me amazed, you brought it up first and I know how you like to be first...that's Calvi's record at South Alabama versus the SEC...

Knows the lay of the land recently, knows how SC does the scholarships...we could do worse, but I...

ABSOLUTELY will not discuss it further until we've played our last game.

:)

Not sure exactly where you are going with this but as long as the mid major coach is occasionally beating the big boys that's good enough for me but it does look like he is Building

Besides Greg goff is my new man crush.

Truth he told I would love to have either

I'm not going anywhere with it. He schedules the games, he doesn't have to do it, he chooses to do it...maybe the program gets paid, but he's gone from not being able to win any to a winning record in the midweek versus the SEC...granted South Alabama and Louisiana Lafayette are at the top of spending in that league, Calvi got the admin to buy into it, we need that...mucho.
