Possible Replacement For Serrano?

I Jack Leggett ever became our coach, I would find better things to do in the Spring.

My feelings on the coach have been clear on this board for years.

Making the tourney gets Serrano one more year in my opinion.

It's s 12 team tourney. If it was a 10 team tourney, which it should be, then you would be looking at no tourney appearances at all. If that was the case I don't think many folks on here would be saying anything about an extension.

So much is perception. Qualifying for the last tournament spot makes it look like something significant has been accomplished. If they let all 14 teams in and UT finished 12th I think the general perception would be worse than it is now.

Joining Mizzou as the first teams ever to qualify for the SEC tournament with only 9 wins isn't a compelling accomplishment.

We got in because Arkansas went 0-for-May, closing with a 13 game losing streak and Auburn went 1-8 over the last three conference weekends.

Why? It's the same place they finished last year. The needle hasn't moved.

Can't give him one more year. Either have to give him 3 or 4 years, or move on to another candidate. One more year just continues to keep the recruiting cycle in limbo.

If administration was looking for a reason to keep Serrano (and I'm betting they were), they got it this weekend. However, I do agree that if he stays, they have to sign him to at least a 3 year deal or recruiting will be hindered greatly.

Then lets give him and Simcox 3 more to get it done or move on. I have no dog in the fight but I think they will get through this. Simcox recruiting will help.

So, if Simcox is the key, then why not hire him as the head coach?

Not advocating that one way or the other, but it seems like those who are pro-keeping Serrano keep crediting Simcox for the alleged improvement. By doing that it seems that they are indicting Serrano more than crediting Simcox.

I'd be much happier with that! IMO, Simcox would do a better job on the field and in the community selling the program.

I could live with that also. I was not aware that Serrano was not in the community selling the program. Simcox may and I don't know for sure not be interested in being the head coach or even educational qualified. I do know that he loves UT and was finally persuaded to take the assistant job by Serrano. Simcox may be what we need in a couple of years,

Serrano is dedicated to the program and will make the effort. He knows that the lack of power arms has been the biggest weakness. I understand those that say he has had his chance and let someone else try, but I think if he can get it going he is one that will sustain it and with his national reputation make it work. The evidence at UT is not strong. I just think he has a much better understanding now of the challenge.

I think they are vetting out candidates. Now, the question is how interested would the candidates they have vetted out be if a change were made. Hart and Serrano will sit down once the season is over. Hart didn't want to do anything early to distract the team that still had a shot at making the post-season which they obviously have done.

Given Hart's history if a change is made, I think a big factor for potential candidates will be coaching experience.

Kinda makes you wonder if it's a for sure deal already. Hubbs is usually more professional and cautious than that.

What is unprofessional about what Brent said? Everybody in the free world who cares and has been paying attention knows that there is at least a decent possibility that a change could be made. If Hart didn't have a "short list" and be putting feelers out in preparation on making a decision with the other powers that be then he wouldn't be doing his job.

A member of the media, who is also an employee of the university, putting it out there is not too cool. I'm assuming the Vol Network is a university entity and Hubbs is a member of that broadcast team. Everyone knows AD's have short lists and probably put out feelers here and there. Doesn't mean it needs to be broadcast to the world when you still have a coach in place. What if Hart's feelers don't workout and you have a coach who walks because he felt betrayed?

Vol Network personnel are employed by IMG, who contracts with UT to broadcast the games. Brent doesn't work for UT, If he did he couldn't operate Volquest.

Serrano is going to "walk" because he feels betrayed? Get a grip. The man isn't stupid. He knows his contract expires after the season is over. If he hasn't put feelers out there himself for other potential positions, just in case he doesn't get a new contract, then he isn't as smart as I think he is, and I do believe he is smart enough to hedge his bets, just like Hart has likely done.

Brent didn't do anything wrong here. It's a business and coaching changes are business decisions.
