Possible Replacement For Serrano?

8 SEC teams are ranked in the top 25 right now - UT isnt one of them - time for this coach to go away.

Who you gonna hire Mikey?

Im still giving that some thought - college is tougher to get a good hire than pro because the candidate has to know recruiting - what about you ? Keep him or get a fresh face ? Actually I would rather wait until his contract expires instead of paying him a buyout

I say give him 2 more years. I like the change with Simcox and personally I think he needs more time. It's not like he forgot how to coach. He has the credentials, more than anyone we could hire anytime soon. He was put in a tough spot in a tough conference, not sure anyone could have done much better.

I hold CDS accountable thus far as well as the UTAD, both need to step it up......after 2 more years then I make a decision. Just my $.02

Yeah I dont think paying the buyout is a very good idea - let it run out then decide

I guess I won't bother pointing out that CDS is in the last year of his contract because it's already been pointed out. Despite not being extended and rightfully so... he currently has the 16th ranked class in the NCAA. The admin has done him no favors and other possible candidates know that.

While being 16th is nice, we are behind quite a few of our SEC brethren, just to point out both sides of the equation and it's a 16 player class, which is very large.

GBO!!!

I normally stay away from "fire the coach" conversations but your thoughts make sense to me. I'd rather dance with the devil I know. I also respect the man and the way he represents our University.

Changing my order of preference a little here if a change is made. In today's D1 baseball regional predictions South Al is one of the regional host. That would be a huge feather in Calvi's hat.

If that holds up he will surely be a very sought after coach at years end

I don't think Serrano will be fired after this season. We are again heading for a rough season it appears but he will be back. I say give him a couple more years. It's hard to watch this type of baseball but Serrano is a decent coach. We just need to steal some of that Vandy talent! :)

We don't exactly have any Todd Heltons on this roster but we do have a few very good players like Senzel, Rogers, & Jackson to go along with pitchers like Warren & Freeman along with Kyle Serrano who is hurt & probably out for the rest of the season.

Helton was picked 8th...Senzel is projected to go higher...obviously he'll have to prove it and Nick certainly isn't surrounded with the same kind of talent...we'll see...

It's time. Serrano just isn't going to get it done here. Lose the series to an awful Auburn team and now sit at 4-11 in SEC play with Vandy, UF, and LSU still on the schedule. Even if we somehow sneak into Hoover, he should be let go. The hole is only going to get bigger if another year is given.

Yep, totally done with it. Was so excited thinking he would get it done, and it just isn't happening. Horrible series losses continue to add up.

I have been following Tennessee baseball since CDS arrived. I am a huge college baseball fan and I was swept up when CDS took that UCI team to the college world series in 2007…it was a special year. Serrano then was chosen to lead Fullerton when Vanderhook was already the associate head coach…this upset many, but the reason why this happen is CDS has more head coaching skills (face of a program, interpersonal, outgoing) than Hook…who is a great baseball man. Serrano came to Tennessee because he loves the school and the challenge of the SEC. He has changed the basic culture of the Tennessee program…the facilities have been upgraded, he has involved the alumni, he is more involved in the community, and his kids go to class and get good grades. They have beaten ranked teams this year, have been in almost every game, and they are a bunch of kids you want to root for! Also, his kids are valued at the next level (being drafted) which shows the talented base is getting better. He hire Simcox, which will be a huge help with recruiting in the future. Last year's draft killed him…plain and simple. I think he will lose 2 pitchers from this year's class, but next year pitching will be the strength of the program.

As someone who is not a Vol…I don't have the emotion that many of you folks have. So please don't get upset at what I am now going to say…You are not an elite SEC program in any sport right now. The facilities are good, but not like an Alabama or Kentucky (SEC powers in football and basketball). Everyone got upset when Kiffin ran back to USC (it was a no brainer…their facilities and history are superior to UT).

The SEC is a brutal league. I am not sure if there has ever been a deeper league in ANY sport. It is much deeper than the Pac 12, Big West or anything on the west coast. I believe CDS is building the culture to be a strong team for years in this conference. IT TAKES TIME and luck (he hasn't had much of this) How much time? Depends. I have given metrics that show the program is improving. I think, from what I read, most agree with this assessment. If you find a coach that has a better resume and wants to come here…I say fine. But just to change because you aren't happy with the losing…that is an emotional decision and unrealistic.

Finally, I visited your University two years ago. I loved the atmosphere, the people, and the pride you have in the school. You have a great baseball man and I think you know it.

Probably the dumbest post I've ever read here. Sure, not elite in any sports...football? Women's basketball? Softball? Etc...

Don't have elite facilities??? You're right, Neyland and TBA suck! Lol......

This guy knows what it takes to win in the south

Why would Toman want to leave a position he can hold until retirement? Brand new stadium. Conference he can compete to win every year. Regular NCAA appearances. Opportunity to recruit nationally, at least among evangelical families. He has a pretty sweet gig, and he knows it.

$ and a realistic chance to go to Omaha

That's an easy answer

That's an easy answer

Easy answer, but not a complete one.

UT would also offer him a realistic chance to be unemployed in 5 years when he turns 60.

I think he knows who he is and where he fits in the coaching world. He's doing what he loves at a place he loves where they love him back.

The other part of the equation is that he doesn't have the resume for an SEC job.

He's a 55 year old coach who waited a long time to get his first head coaching job and has had a reasonably successful run at a mid major with 3 40-win seasons, one conference championship and one at-large NCAA bid in 8 seasons. Not likely to reach NCAA's this year.

He's not a hard-charging up-and-comer. And he's not an established championship-level head coach.

I respect the man a lot, but I don't think he & UT would be a good fit for either party.
