Assuming Kentucky wins 1 out of next 2, and Ole Miss wins and Alabama gets beat; are we the 4th seed in the SEC with a win over Mizz? That would put us, Bama and Mizz in 3 way tie. What is the first tiebreaker? We would be 2-1,Bama 1-2 and Mizz1-1 in that head to head group. Obviously I am bored. Anyone know if we still have a chance? That is the only scenario that seemed possible to me.

I thought we could finish no better than fifth with the tie breaker scenario...but could be wrong

Good question. I was looking at the standings earlier, but trying to figure it out made my head hurt.

If UT beats Mizzou, and Ole Miss wins out but UT is tied with UK Mizzou Bama for 3rd, could UT win the tiebreaker? I think UT would be 3-2 with the tied teams, UK would be 2-2, Mizzou 1-2, and Bama 2-2.

Probably a stretch since UK needs to lose 2 - @UGA and Flariduh (possible), Bama needs to lose at home to UGA.

Yup. I think the only thing that matters is if we beat Mizzou and Alabama loses to LSU than we get a bye

Why would Ole Miss matter to us? They would be a #3 seed with a Bama loss and Tennessee win.

None of that matters. We don't want a bye. Assuming we can beat Missouri, what we want is a 20th win against a relatively 'easy' team. Then, a 21st win against somebody not named Florida, then a semi-final appearance with 21 wins. Winning that one would be gravy, but I think we make the tourney with 2 SECT wins. So, it's actually better for us not to get the SECT bye.

There is no way to get the #3 seed but we still could get the #4 seed.

To get the #4 seed:
First, We have to Win!
UK lose tonight and Saturday. We have the tiebreaker over them.

Here is what I believe what will happen

UT over Mizz
LSU over Miss
UK over Georgia (I hope not!)
Fla over UK
Alabama over Georgia

Final Standings (IMO):

1. Florida 15-3
2. Bama 12-6
3. UK 11-7
4. Miss 11-7
5. Tenn 11-7
6. Mizz 11-7
7. LSU 10-8
8. Arkansas 10-8
9. Georgia
10. Vandy
11. A&M
12. South Carolina
13. Miss St.
14. Auburn

Im OK with this bracket.
What does everybody think!

Bama plays Georgia

Ole miss plays LSU.

From what I can tell the ole miss game matters a lot for different reasons

5 seed would be absolutely perfect, much better than 4 (for reasons stated in previous post). It would give us the best chance to win 2 games.

Here are 5 possible scenarios. Maybe someone can come up with our seeding for the ones where I put a "?"

A: UT beats Mizz, Ole Miss loses to LSU, Bama loses to Georgia: UT, Ole Miss, Mizz & Bama are in a 4 way tie for third. Tennessee would have a 2-3 head to head record with that group. Seed: ?

B: UT beats Mizz, Bama loses to Georgia, but Ole Miss beats LSU: UT, Mizz & Bama would be in a 3 way tie for 4th. Tennessee would have a 2-1 record with that group.

C: UT beats Mizz, Ole Miss loses to LSU, but Bama beats Georgia: UT, Ole Miss, and Mizz would be in a 3 way tie for 4th. Tennessee would have a 1-2 record with that group. Seed: ?

D: UT beats Mizz, Ole Miss & Bama win: Tennessee would be in a tie with Mizz for 5th place and UT would hold the lone head to head meeting victory. Seed: 5th

E: UT loses: UT falls to 6th place and would be tied with any of the following 3 teams who win their game on Saturday: LSU Arkansas Georgia Seed: 6th at best, depending on who wins.

Edit: I just realized Ky hasn't played Georgia yet. So that could factor in as well. My scenarios assume that Ky beats Georgia tonight.

I've got all the scenarios and tie breakers worked out in a notebook at home. Ill post them later. In short, there are a couple of scenarios where TN could get a 4 seed and double bye. However, as previously stated, we don't want that. 5 or 6 seed is much better.

We could still get a 3 seed.

If Ole Miss beats LSU, UK loses out, Bama loses to Georgia, and we beat Missouri, then the standings would be:

Florida 15-3
Ole Miss 12-6
UT 11-7
Bama 11-7
UK 11-7
Mizzou 11-7

Being tied with UK, Bama, and Mizzou would give us a record of 3-2 against those teams. Bama would be 2-2, UK 2-2, Mizzou 1-2.

The key is Ole Miss winning. If we're tied with them, we will lose whatever tiebreaker used since they swept us.

If we beat Mizzou, Ole Miss wins, Bama loses and UK splits, then the top 3 spots would be locked up and there would be a tie for 4th. We would win that tie-breaker as well since we'd be 2-1 vs. Bama and Mizzou, while Bama would be 1-2, and Mizzou 1-1.

If we beat Mizzou, Ole Miss wins, UK loses both, and Bama wins. We would be tied with UK and Mizzou. We would also win that tie-breaker. Both us and UK would have 2-1 records among the three tied schools, but since we beat Florida once, that would give us the edge.

So there are a couple scenarios in which we could get a double bye, but they all involve Ole Miss winning.

What we need to cheer for: obviously a UT win, an Ole Miss victory, and for Bama and UK to go 1-2 combined.

If UK splits, they're 12-6, and ahead of us. Not tied.

Edit: never mind. Misread that.

I'm not cheering for a double bye.

ROFL. Some of you people simply amaze me. It's BASIC MATH. Geez..

I repeat...for the 100th time...for Tennessee to get a double bye...who cares about Ole Miss??? Even if they win a tie breaker, if Bama gets beat and we beat Mizzou, there is 2 spots open.

Current SEC Standings.

#11 Florida 14-3 -- 24-5
Kentucky 11-5 2.5 20-9
Missouri 11-6 3 22-8
Ole Miss 11-6 3 22-8
Alabama 11-6 3 19-11
Tennessee 10-7 4 18-11

#1 Seed = Florida.
#2 Seed = Kentucky (They need to go 1-1...if they go 0-2, we win the tie-breaker with them so they don't matter)
#3 Seed = Ole Miss (Get beat by LSU or beat LSU...who cares)
#4 Seed = Tennessee (IF what I said happens...Alabama gets beat and we beat Mizzou. It puts Mizzou with the same record as us with us getting the tie breaker and Alabama with the same record as us and we still win the tie breaker)

So again...who cares about Ole Miss. If the goal is to get a double bye than just beat Mizzou and hope Alabama gets beat. What am I missing here? It's not difficult but seriously, if I'm missing something...let me know

SEC STANDINGS IF THAT HAPPENS
#1) Florida 15-3
#2) Kentucky 12-6
#3) Ole Miss 12-6
#4) Tennessee 11-7
Alabama 11-7
Missouri 11-7

Ole Miss winning at LSU hurts us more than it helps us imo. We don't want the committee to start comparing us and Ole Miss for the last spot or 2 b/c they beat us twice. I know they aren't supposed to take that into consideration, but I am still not comfortable with it. An Ole Miss loss at LSU puts them completely out of the at large discussion. They would have to win the tourny to get in.

I agree. But they were discussing if we could still get a double bye. I was just showing the simple possibilities of how an Alabama loss and us winning would take care of that. I'd love to see Ole Miss lose every single game they play. And I don't see Ole Miss beating LSU anyways but even if they do, we still get a bye

I asked About ole miss because you posted Bama was playing LSU. I was just clarifying if that was correct which it wasn't.
