I don't do this to attack TCHFCATUTK, but his current plight sparked something in my head. It is quite conceivable that all of the following jobs will be open at the end of the season:
Miami
Clemson
Florida State
North Carolina
Penn State
Michigan
Oklahoma(Stoops to NFL)
Arkansas
Tennessee

I don't remember a season in which there was a possibility that so many top notch jobs could open up.

I can see all the positions you listed with the exception of Stoops, do you think he would want to go to the NFL?

:bad:

I don't see Clemson having an opening, unless Bowden leaves to go to a bigger job. They *should* damn near run the table this year.

I agree I think father time will have to take them before the school makes them leave.

well see bowden's seminoles are not doing that bad. this year should be better then last. he wont be fired because of bad performance, until he has a few consecutive bad years. last year they had a bad record but won the acc. that should have helped him. he also beat miami. schools like it when you beat your rival. so it will take a few more bad years, even then they may not fire him becasue what he has done. similar with paterno.

joe paterno bought himself at least one free year with the 11-1 orange bowl winning season. plus i dont think anyone is going to fire him, just becasue what he has done. even through the few bad seasons before, people weren't really calling for his head. they were saying he should step down, but it wasn't a really serious thing.

the coaches are going until they want to stop i believe.

If Michigan finishes similar to last year Lloyd Carr could find himself on the hotseat too.

that is true, but i do not believe michigan will finish there.

and i belive, even fi they finish around 7-5 in the regular season, if they beat ohio state then he will be able to keep his job another year, because of how the rivalry has taken an ugly turn to the buckeyes side under tressel.

I don't think any of those open up. That is just my opinion though. I know hat thinks at least 3 of them open up though.

i don't think fsu or penn state will open.
I'm fairly confident that at least one of them moves on at the end of the season.

You don't have to deal with NCAA compliance in the pros. I really think the Bomar incident has disillusioned him.

which one. :dunno: they both seem to want the record.

but it think we agree if one of them is gone, it will be due to their own will.

michigan is a tough job to deal with. the expectations are always there, and following through with theirs is no easy task.

Same for Texas A&M and Franchione.
I started to put him on the list, but his contract is so large he's probably got one year before the heat comes.

I think Penn State is going to be bad. Don't know if Joe Pa wants to take on rebuilding again.

I would have retired if i were him. finish on an 11-1 season with the orange bowl title. maybe he wants to be like barry alveraz and wait until he can finally beat michigan.

i think if penn state goes to a bowl, he will stay for sure. he doesn't seem like he has any urge to leave.

I also don't think FSU is going to be anything special. In fact, I'll go so far as to say it this way: the loser of the Miami-FSU game has a new coach next year. I certainly don't think the administration would push Bowden out, but I do think he wants to avoid tarnishing what he has bulit by having a poor ending.

coker should be gone imo.

notice a trend in miami's record

12-0
12-1
11-2
9-3
9-3

they are just running further into the ground.

with a better coach, miami would be acc favorites every year.

Coaches that I expect to be on an upward track (possibly leaving current job for a more high profile position) listed in no particular order:

Jeff Tedford
Pat Hill
Mike Stoops (assuming Bob doesn't take him to the NFL)
Steve Spurrier (cannot imagine that SC is his last stop)
Mike Leach
Guy Morris (if he gets 8 wins would be a commodity)
Bobby Petrino
