Post-Debate Analysis Thread

I found it very telling that after the debate Biden came on and gave his analysis of the debate then right after the anchor said an invitation was given to Palin and they declined but that the campaign offered up Rudy Guilliani to speak instead.I don't think that bodes well for her in her debate seems they are scared to let her speak outside of friendly confines.

Charles Gibson and Katie Couric weren't exactly nice to her. So your "friendly confines" is just BS.

Biden loves the sound of his own voice and is probably a bigger attention whore than Bill Clinton.

They may not have been friendly, but it doesn't change the fact that she looked completely lost, especially in the Couric interview.

Couric's first question was about Rick Davis and a topic that's asinine. Couric knows that Davis is not receiving any compensation from Davis-Manifort (sp), yet she chose to ambush Palin right off the bat with an idiotic question designed purposefully as a "gotcha".

Great, then what about the rest of the interview?

If you and I were to meet, and right after shaking hands I punched you in the face, broke your nose and several teeth, are you really going to care what else I have to say?

Decent analogy, but it doesn't make her look any better in my eyes or the public's. When it comes down to it, if you agree to do an interview, you damn well better be ready to take some shots.

Has Obama done more than 2 interviews with people not pushing his agenda?

57% of AOL users are women and 51% (of AOL users) have college degrees, both of which are solid democrat demographics (at least in this election).

generally speaking that is true, but i don't think those numbers translate when you start moving up in income.

This is a CHANGE election, and anyone still on AOL in 2008 is probably not into CHANGE?

1) McCain is talking about a larger philosophy on the role of the Federal government - one that Obama has shown he disagrees with vehemently even if he won't come out and say it. Obama wants the government to be more involved and spend more. McCain sees it the opposite. 2) Neither is being realistic.

1) that's a smokescreen too. it's cover for hindsight showing that people aren't buying "no earmarks" as having any significant impact on the economic situation, which has been McCain's "go to" economic argument throughout his career - when times were good, and when times are tough. now, if he truly wants to freeze everything but defense and vets', that's a serious change I'm not sure voters think is wise.

2) To an extent I agree, though it's politically very risky to assume what each would cut right now.

it may be weak, but you know it's true. Chris Wallace and Bill O'Reilly were Obama's toughest interviews and they still treated him with more respect than either Gibson or Couric showed Palin.

Why does Obama say "Tolly-bahn"? It makes them sound like characters from Willy Wonka. Saying "Pah-kee-stahn" doesn't help either.

I didn't notice Tolly-bahn but I did notice Pocki-stan, which kept making me think of the Japanese candy called pocki.

That's because he earned it, right there on the spot. She went into a few tired slogans and then fell apart like a cheap suit.

no, it's because Wallace and O'Reilly have a lot more class than Couric or Gibson and both are professional enough to know that gotcha questions appeal only to the lowest common denominator.

Wallace is one of the best in the business.

I've always thought that O'Reilly was a little soft in interviews with people like Obama. It's almost like he goes out of his way to be nonconfrontational just so he'll be able to say "Look at me and how fair I am".

Most on here are saying that McCain won the debate hands down yet Obama continues to extend his lead in the polls. If that's the case, I hope McCain wins all the debates.

McCain doesn't win unless he makes these debates somewhat vitriolic.

He has to get away from the talking points and force ad hoc rebuttals. The mediators are not going to make Obama appear to be the freshman that he is. McCain's job henceforth is to make that point at every turn. He does it effectively and he wins.

Well, then she should have made Couric look asinine instead of looking lost trying to answer it. Obviously there is some level of ambiguity and story spinning going on with this asinine topic.

what could she possibly have gained by telling Couric she's a biased piece of media trash and she would only be answering relevant questions?
