Practice #15 - Updates

So, you're saying there are not 5 star wide receiver recruits who don't pan out? Patrick Turner, Marlon Brown, Maurice Staley none of them lived up to their status or hype. Malone might end up being a good receiver. I'm saying he's not as impressive as North. You disagree?

I hope I'm missing the sarcasm regarding Malone. Otherwise, some of you guys have lost your minds.

Different animals, different situations. Hard to compare.

And North, like Marlon Brown, was not a five star WR.

Josh Malone was the by far the most impressive man on the field in the spring game. When other kids his age were thinking about whom to take to senior prom. The idea that he's somehow not impressive enough yet is just nuts.

Scout may have.

And he's in the NFL doing well. So it wasn't a total whiff.

And it also has absolutely zero reflection on or relevance to Josh Malone's potential as a vol.

My argument is how he succeeds on the field is independent of how many schools did or didn't offer. There are many in the past who had countless offers who were total busts.

I wouldn't say doing well. He was picked up last year as a free agent when the Ravens had injured receivers. Let's see if he makes the roster this year.

Seems like Tennessee has had more than its fair share of these over hyped wide receiver types who have gone to Georgia or USC and then we were glad they went out of state. Maybe he's one of the over hyped guys who stayed.
Seems like your attitude is backfiring

You guys got too excited about his play against those fourth teamers in the spring game.

The guy is a true freshman who has never taken a snap. Can we chill out? At one point in this program (not so long ago) guys were recruited, redshirted, and you didn't hear from them until they were juniors or RS soph. Having to play so many freshmen in recent years have some people forgetting that HS to the SEC is a giant leap, and playing as a freshman is (and should be) rare, and for good reason.

do not kill the messenger....

but there are more than a few around Sumner county who followed him who believe he will be a bust in college.

I have never seen a single live game for Station Camp and have never seen him play so I have no idea if it is just talk or what...but I have been told more than once by people who mentioned he wasn't going to be that great.

I hope they are wrong. I am pulling for him because he's from Hendersonville and a Vol so I hope the talk was just bull**** and jealousy.

I guess I will find out.
They played Hurd's team on ESPN, the first game of the season, last year...and he was making plays all over the field.

Just like VN to take a little smidge of criticism and blow it way out of proportion...before the kid has a chance to play in a single game.

Soon, this site will be changed to "Knee-Jerk Nation"...and then just "Jerk Nation"...if this pattern holds up. Cause more and more jerks are coming out of the woodwork, to bash our own players and former players...while jerking themselves over each other's soft porn avatars and gifs

Of all the possible dumb positions to take on this board, I don't think "josh malone is doomed" is your best best.

I don't know who's taking that dumb position. My position is he isn't doing as well as expected and not as well as North. Now, who said he was doomed?

Knee jerk is to believe Malone is going to get out there and perform like he did against the fourth teamers.

Which game that Malone played in are you basing this on?

Just basing this on coaches' comments and the fact that he is running second team when there is only first and second team. And, just comparing how he looked in the spring game versus how North looked last Fall. North is more impressive in my opinion. That's all I've said. Never said Malone was a bust. He might become great. Hope so.

Why's Azzanni beating him over the head in the press? Maybe thinking he should be getting more out of him? Trying to motivate him? Coaches don't normally do this to a freshman.

This kid isn't used to practicing hard, that's my guess. He needs to be a better practice player. And the coaches are trying to push him. I don't take it to mean he's a failure to this point, nor does it say anything about his talent level.

Anyone who watched the spring game saw glimpses of what the kid is capable of. I don't recall too many true freshmen coming in and putting up a performance like that.

That's fair if you think North is better. North had a really solid season for a true freshman who had to work with three different quarterbacks during the season. But it's hard for me to understand what you are basing that on? A closed scrimmage and some quotes from the coaches?
