JONES: We had a very productive day. We gave them some very challenging elements.

JONES: We need to be a much more physical football team, our freshmen have to learn to push through adversity.

JONES: Every play counts, the difference today was four or five plays. That was a great illustration.

JONES: We have some really good video to watch today as players continue to prove themselves.

JONES: We can't afford to have teaching opportunities all the time. We need to start learning.

JONES: AJ (Johnson) took some monumental steps forward in his leadership.

JONES: The style of play is not ready. We're not finishing at the football on defense and getting 11 hats to the football.

JONES: Our program is based on discipline and we're not a disciplined football team right now.

JONES on QBs: We aren't where we need to be there right now. We need to take monumental strides.

JONES: We did game-ending kicks at the end and Aaron Medley was 5-5 to end practice.

JONES: Curt Maggitt continues to bring it every day.

JONES: Barnett continues to elevate the play of the defensive line.

JONES on freshmen: I think this class has great maturity. They're going to play, have to fight some battles on the road.

JONES: Individuals have good days and days they need to improve.

JONES on Kickoff return: Being a great returner, you have to have a knack for it. Devrin Young has a knack for it.

(I"m updating this as the quotes come in)

Ben Frederickson: Biggest reason Butch Jones is letting freshmen #Vols talk to media this season: "They're going to play."

Tennessee football practice report: Vols back in action | Times Free Press

The first-team offense's two turns, with Justin Worley at quarterback, ended in a fourth-down incompletion and an interception. On the first series, Pig Howard had a short pass go through his hands, and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin made a nice open-field tackle on tailback Marlin Lane before a miscommunication on fourth down saw Worley throw deep to a spot devoid of any receivers.

Worley started his second series with two completions, but freshman cornerback Emmanuel Moseley had good coverage deep on receiver Marquez North and came down with a tough catch on Worley's underthrown pass to end the series.

"Put the ball where one guy can catch it!" Vols coach Butch Jones barked at his senior quarterback.

Josh Smith continued to make catch after catch

The most impressive play — at least in periods open to reporters — was freshman cornerback Emmanuel Moseley’s interception of senior quarterback Justin Worley. Big sophomore receiver Marquez North tried to go over the top and over the back of Moseley — something North does to defensive backs with regularity — but Moseley stood his ground, timed his leap perfectly and came down with an acrobatic pick despite the strong North trying to knock the ball away.

-Elliot Berry worked with OLBs

-AJ continues to partipate in "few" 11-on-11 drills

-Pig Howard and Draw Bowles were in no contact jerseys.

Medley: I'm just trying to be prepared for 102,455 in Neyland.

Medley: I grew up a big Tennessee fan. It's a privilege to represent my state.

Moseley might end up being even better than Cam Sutton.

It's crazy how these reports keep coming in on him. I love when new guys are doing stuff like this on proven guys, because we already know what they can do.
