Practice #6 Updates (4:00pm start)

I also get the feeling that Peterman is making a push to be the starter.

I think CBJ had an idea of who the guy was going to be before fall camp even started. That guy was Worley w/ Dobbs challenging.

Fast forward to fall camp and Worley and Dobbs are both wetting the bed and Peterman is the only guy who even looks SEC caliber at this point.

Could be why CBJ is being so negative. Not because he doesn't want Peterman to be that guy...but because he's disappointed in both Worley and Dobbs.

Agreed. I was mocking anyone who thinks he should be named starter.

He is a senior, he has proven he is awful, for years in a row. He isn't going to all of a sudden get it in the next 24 days.

QB play is what could wreck this season, unless we have some kind of very dominant run game to lean on.

I spouted off the very same drivel last year. I rejoiced when we heard Peterman was going to get a shot. Later when Dobbs got the nod I was optimistic again. By the time the season was over the only good memories I had of it, was with Worley at the helm. We know he's no Peyton but damn these other guys have had all the chances in the Universe to take it away. Last season reminded me to be careful what I wish for at QB.

Hes also a true freshman who shouldve been at Sr prom 2 months ago.
And he's not going to be 3rd string. I just don't think you assume a kid has mailed it in by watching a couple of minutes of video, but that's just me.

We have about 25 other players that should have been at prom 2 months ago and most of them aren't moving downward on the depth chart. I wasn't assuming he's mailing it in, but its a perfectly logical and reasonable concept that a true freshman that goes for 189 rec yds in the Spring game might come in with a few assumptions about his spot he shouldn't make. I mean, CBJ didn't call him out for his body language for nothing, right? By the way, there's nothing more that I want than to see this kid ball out come Aug 31st. I was just making an observation.

Is it true Peterman looks SEC caliber so far or is this off todays performance against 2nd team D? I'm genuinely curious.

Devrin Young looks ready. His footwork looks great. he worries me a little bit on returning kicks

Wharton looks the best to me at catching the kicks, he always constantly keeps his feet moving to give himself the best base possible to catch the kick. We won't find out who is best at actually returning them until we see them in a game.

I haven't been necessarily pro one QB over the other. I certainly called BS whenever all the Riley fans were pushing him over everyone else with little to back it up.

With that said, of course the Florida game is going to be a huge hurdle in the fan base to even consider Peterman. We need the most consistent passer. If that is Peterman, then so be it. Hate seeing Worley struggle. Somewhat pulling for him since he is a senior and seems to be a good kid and the others have more time left.

So cut these boys some slack. Your never as good as your best game nor as bad as your worst one either.

Give it a rest fade. These be young men we are talking about. After 6 days of grueling D1 practice with one day of rest - they all are going to respond in one way or another. What they are doing is not easy by any means. It is grueling. Sometimes your body just physically can not handle it, especially for the freshman. Malone is still adjusting. If he keeps his head in the game he will be fine.

Well said. Win lose or draw they're what we have for this year anyway.

My apologies I didn't realize that Worley was supposed to transform into Andrew Luck. Worley is a game manager not a 1st round draft pick. He by all accounts looks sharper and given its a team sport maybe just maybe it's not all his fault by all means if you can tell by limited video and quotes can't tell exactly what's happening on the field let me know, and ill stand corrected.

Not limited video, just the last few years.

2016 Battle for Bristol defense
(Given no one leaves early)

DE Dewayne Hendrix (junior)
DT Shy Tuttle (sophomore)
DT Kahlil McKenzie (sophomore)
DE Derek Barnett (junior)

OLB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (senior)
MLB Cecil Cherry (sophomore)
OLB Dillon Bates (junior)

CB Cam Sutton (senior)
CB Emmanuel Mosley (junior)
SS Todd Kelly Jr. (Junior)
FS Rashaun Gaulden/ Berry's (junior)

This looks like a top 10 defense on talent alone.

These depth charts won't mean much till the week of USU. Malone will be starting that game too.

One thing that is very apparent in drills, Jalen Hurd has some quick feet.

He has quick everything. I can't wait to see him against the slower defenses we'll face.

Watching what little USU film I could find, their defense is slow as hell and they're not very big either.

Our TE's had a serious case of the drops. I hope it's just a little fatigue setting in and they'll bounce back with more focus. Tomorrow is a new day.
