The problem is that the Vols really haven't had a good scoring guard in a while--and please don't tell me Simmons was. She wasn't. Loved her passion but she missed far too many shots and just did't have the overall game. Last year we didn't have a true 2. Massengale made some threes but certainly wasn't/isn't a real 2. I think Carter is more naturally a point guard than a 2, but with Reynolds taking over the point from Mass that meant Carter had to play 2. Middleton is also more 1 than 2--a position that requires creating and scoring off the dribble. And now we have Cooper, whose natural/best position is apparently PG. We'll see how she plays, where she plays. Outside/three-point shooting is going to be the biggest offensive challenge for this team, IMO. Mass shot fairly well from three-point land last year, and Burdick made a lot of mid-range jumpers (she had a very good year--until the maryland game). Both now gone, so need to replace their production. DeShields should make up a lot of it herself, if we're lucky.
