"I've been really, really pleased with Ethan Wolf. I think he continues to get better and better. To individuals right now on the perimeter Vic Wharton. Wharton continues to do things with the ball in his hands and Josh Smith as well. Josh Smith looks healthy. He looks fast. He looks elusive. I have been very pleased with those three individuals along with a lot of others. Those three really show up when you watch practice from start to finish."
Freshman defensive back Rashaan Gaulden was in the black hole (conditioning pit) on Saturday. Gaulden is battling a high-ankle sprain. Fellow defensive back Malik Foreman was not on the practice field. Foreman was home in the Tri-Cities because of a death in the family.
Jones said he didn't have final results on receiver Cody Blanc's MRI. It's believed to be an Achilles injury. Blanc was hurt in the Vols first workout Friday night.
"You're going through a long training camp, and it's on the power of one. One day at a time. And quite simply, how do you eat an elephant? One day at a time," Jones told reporters. "It's kind of a visual for them, you have to take one bit at a time. And we're taking a bite out of training camp. We have to get the most out of each and everyday. We can have no bad days. We have to have great energy. We have to have great mental effort and great mental intensity each and everyday.
"For a young football team, that's a challenge in and of itself. But we have really challenged them since they reported a couple days ago, and so far so good. Tomorrow is another challenge. We have to learn from today and we're only as good as our last practice. So again, another opportunity to get better."
