So at least the Yankees will be able to sign him in 6 years for 550 million dollars.

If Bryce Harper can live up to half his hype, the Nats have something going.

Glad I was involved in 2008. Lucky me.

He took it easy the first start so there would be more hype to utterly destroy.

It was impressive and he has great stuff, but let's remember some things

1) It was the Pirates
2) Nobody in the league, including the Pirates, has any kind of effective scouting report on the guy
3) Nobody has any kind of experience hitting against him.
4) He was jacked up because it was his first start.

He is going to hit his rough patches like every young starter. Good hitters are going to lay off more of those pitches that he got away with throwing tonight. He is going to face control issues like every young pitcher.

I am only saying this because ESPN and the MLB Network will be ready to induct him into the HOF tomorrow, and I am pretty damn tired of the hype. I have little doubt that he will be a good pitcher, but he can't possibly be what they are making him out to be.

And someone on MLB seriously tried to make a Walter Johnson comparison earlier. I would love for someone to explain that to me.

All that said, once again that was damn impressive.

Bob Costas should be put out to pasture, he has been comparing this kid to Juan Marichal, Walter Johnson, so on and so on...saying that he could be a historic player...he may be, but it is his first start...good grief.

Good, I knew I wasn't the only one who heard it. I respect the hell out of Costas, but he really needs to get it together.

Lets face it....This is pretty much a glorified AAA start when you face the Pirates.

 They are Major League hitters. Do some research on the percentage of baseball players that actually make it to the league...

What he did was nothing short of incredible...

14K's and 0bb's...only been done 5 times since 1900.

He is 21 years old with 2 plus plus pitches and 2 other pitches that are plus. There has NEVER been a prospect like him. Throwing that hard with that control is something unseen. All he did was live up to the hype. People (not just you) saying it was just the Pirates are forgetting that these guys are Major League hitters.

I don't even know how someone could start to explain the Walter Johnson comparison. Johnson is arguably the greatest pitcher of all time while Strasberg has pitched one game against one of the worst teams in baseball.

Dude....I've worked in minor league baseball the better part of 8 years, well aware of the percentages.

The Pirates suck. They are last in the league in runs scored.

The kid can deal though....but lets not crown him as baby Jesus just yet.

Please...that is what ESPN and the rest of the crazed media want you to believe...Never is a strong word...he has the stuff to be very good...anyone who says that it doesn't matter who he was facing is crazy, the Pirates have a batting average under .240.
