Predict Steven Strasburg's debut preformance

He is 21 years old with 2 plus plus pitches and 2 other pitches that are plus. There has NEVER been a prospect like him. Throwing that hard with that control is something unseen. All he did was live up to the hype. People (not just you) saying it was just the Pirates are forgetting that these guys are Major League hitters.

Fair, but I am not ready to crown him just yet.

Also, in the case of the 14Ks v. 0BBs. The kid got a lot of help from a lot of really bad swings. I saw him get behind or run the count full twice that I can remember and get bailed out by a swing on an obvious ball 4.

Please...that is what ESPN and the rest of the crazed media want you to believe...Never is a strong word...he has the stuff to be very good...anyone who says that it doesn't matter who he was facing is crazy, the Pirates have a batting average under .240.

I don't care what their batting average is as a team. They were flat out over matched by a 21 year old kid. I'll trust the dozens and dozens of scouts that say they haver never seen anyone like him someone who just likes to post drivel on a message board.

Did you ever see Walter Johnson pitch? I sure as heck haven't. All I know is the people in the know seem to think the kid is one of a kind and he did nothing to show otherwise last night.

Emain...you're smarter than this. You don't think some of that had to do with the serious movement on the kids pitches?

You have to agree that he had a hell of a start. But saying that the Pirates have a lineup full of "Major League Hitters" is a stretch. By classification they are technically Major League hitters, but they are atrocious.

McCutchen is the only player on that team who could start for any of the other teams in the top half of the MLB.

We can all agree that he has a shot to be special...But some of the comparisons are ridiculous. He has nasty stuff...I would just like to see better hitters face him, thats all.

I bet a lot of teams could use Garret Jones or Ryan Doumit.

It was one start, against the worst team that MLB has to offer...he has very good stuff and I was very impressed...the talk of him being a future HOF player after one start is crazy.

Once teams get a report on him and guys have seen him a few times, they will adjust, they always do...pitching to the Pirates and pitching to the Phillies is a different monster, he will be good barring an injury, not ready to call him the greatest thing to have ever picked up a baseball.

Most of it yes, some of it no. The two that I mentioned (at least if memory serves correct) started and finished out of the zone.

Let's put it this way, the Reds shutout the Pirates in back to back games and didn't walk a single batter while striking out quite a few. Cueto and Bailey aren't exactly known for having serious control either.

Me either but that doesn't mean that what he did should be discredited because it was only the Pirates.

I am not saying it wasn't impressive, but there is a reason the Nationals started him against the Pirates. Kid will have a great career, but the media hype is beyond ridiculous.

arm issues appear to be the only thing to keep him from being a monster #1.

I like that better.

Ehh... his control will certainly be better than Nolan's. At least I would think. From a pure K perspective, I could see that. Or maybe like a right handed Randy Johnson.

The Prior comparison could be a good one, for his sake I hope it isn't.

Will never throw as much as Nolan. Those stats are now beyond reach.

He gave me goosebumps. As a nationals fan, a huge one, I'm obviously annoyingly excited... but i'm okay staying grounded. I will say, if he stayed in, he would've struck out 17 guys... at least.

Not to mention, starts later in the year for him will be 5-6 innings or so. They almost stopped him after the 6th on Tuesday. Innings limit.

His next few starts line up to be... Cleveland, ChiSox, Baltimore, Atlanta I think. I'm just plain excited to see him and my Nationals playin some good ball.

Sidenote: If Christian Guzman is ever in right field again, even shagging fly balls, can we, as a nation, do away with him?
