Predicting we will beat USCe by 10-14 points

Ole Miss tried it Saturday night against A&M's Johnny Manziel. It didn't work very well since it isolated a very good open field runner with a LB. He missed a few chances to make the play; however, I have no idea what kind of speed the LB has.

I don't believe we have a LB fast enough to spy Shaw. Key will be to get a rush on him and keep him contained and force him inside and off our edge.

Actually heard yesterday that he's had his best practices of the year since the Georgia game. He's definitely going to be a huge player on defense at LB for us, just not sure it starts this Saturday or not.

Although, I wouldn't sleep on JRM... kids a baller and just might be close enough to ready that we see him in some situations against USCe.

52-7 at Arkansas in an early game. I expect only slightly better results, because Arky gave up in the 2nd half and I don't think its he character of this team to do that.

Only slightly better? I want whatever you're smoking lol. It's going to be close, unless we turn the ball over a bunch. And if we win the turnover battle by two we win IMO.

They'll have to play as well as they did against UGA if they want to beat sc. I think they can but it's a matter of if they do it

Who wants it more? TN played one great second half against GA. Their confidence was there to include Worley's. Almost more importantly we saw for a first time in aloooong time the drive was there, they wanted that W. There hearts were in the game till the end. Hopefully coming off the bye with rest, more practice, and that fire there even more so now. We come close or even take the win against SC. Go Vols!

Interesting post. Did you think they lacked drive and a desire to win in previous games? Like the Florida game, for instance?

We all said these same things about GA before we played them, and how we really didn't stand a chance, and look what happened? We came so close to winning that game. I have to believe that this team is hungry for a win against an opponent supposedly better then them, they have their confidence up, and they see that they can play with anybody. They will come out fired up Saturday, and the crowd needs to really be rocking that stadium from the very beginning, and we have a definite chance to win this game!

I agree with you. However, it will be very important for us to get off to a fast start. USC has a good defense and it will be our offensive line against their defensive line. If we can win this battle we stand a good chance
of making it a close game. I hope the fans will get into the game like they did against Georgia.

:good!:

We've been saying that about every big game the last 5 years.

I don't think we get blown out and I think we have a chance, but I'm not confident enough yet to say we definitely win.

Alright trying to pick apart my words. I said their hearts were in it till the end, in the past we have seen a team that may be or is down going into the second half and all but a few virtually give up. The point I'm trying to make is that I believe we are dawning a new era in Vol football. With this team we are seeing small improvements about every game. This team is showing the drive that it takes to finish a game, and finish knowing that they put everything out there. I'm not trying to say in two more games we are automatically champ status, I'm just liking the drive that these guys have and the effort they put in as oppose to recent past teams. Go Vols!

Nevermind.

DV: Interested to hear your take on what happend at the Arky game. How did you guys put together such a fantastic performance (52 unanswered points)?

Did it look like some lucky breaks, better execution, more accurate passes, fired up team, or Arky just sucks?

Arkansas just isn't that good, but we finally put together a complete performance. If we play like that this Saturday, we will probably win by a couple of touchdowns.

We only had one real break go our way, and that was Arkansas fumbling after a 51-yard gain. Our execution was brilliant after our first defensive possession

The problem is that we are horribly inconsistent. I'll be surprised if we play anywhere that close this Saturday. Again, if we do, we'll probably win by a couple of TDs (and I don't say that as disrespect towards UT; UT just doesn't have a lot to work with this year). However, I am expecting a sloppy game that will be close going into the fourth-quarter.

What am I basing this on?
1) CBJ & staff have had 2 weeks to gameplan. Expanded offensive playbook that USCe hasn't seen.
2) Underclassmen starters have turned the corner and will play their collective best game.
3) Tiny leads the O-line to make a statement. Vols' rush for 200 yards.
4) We win the turnover margin by 2.
5) Palardy flips the field and pins USCe twice with boundary punts inside the 15.
6) Bye week came at a great time to get us healthier.
7) USCe trap game with #14 Mizzou the following week.
8) Vols' have been building momentum, a win here just makes sense.

I posted on another thread we have a great shot. I get a little baffled on posts that have EXACT, crystal ball predictions with specific game scenarios. Nevertheless some good points

SWOT Analysis for me is
STRENGTHS
1) CBJ & staff have had 2 weeks to gameplan. Expanded offensive playbook that USCe hasn't seen. CHECK
2) Bye week came at a great time to get us healthier (AND GET SOME PLAYERS BACK) CHECK
3) O-Line and fairly productive running game
4) Better coaching. The staff coached their best game yet.
5) Kicking game solid, but won't predict we flip the field twice on them. CHECK
6) Home field advantage. 12th man.

WEAKNESSES
1) Still thin and inexperienced at receiver position
2) Still inexperienced at QB. Worley has shown flashes and hope it continues from 2nd half of UGA to this game. USCe has a solid backup. We don't.
3) Banged up RB corps and backups relatively inexperienced.

OPPORTUNITIES
1) Energized fan base and more confident team gives us an opportunity to capitalize.

THREATS
1) The Ole Ball Coach
2) Mobile QB who has cannot only run, but has made few mistakes and protects the ball (hard for me to see us winning turnover battle if their team is making good decisions). Winning the turnover battle is more about us protecting the all than them making mistakes.

Hard fought battle, UT by 7 or less. Will go down to the wire (there is my Crystal Ball)

I would feel better with Dylan Thompson at QB for SC instead of Connor Shaw. Shaw is tough, smart, experienced and mobile. That combination usually turns our defense to putty. Maybe this will be the week we finally keep containment but I have my doubts.
