Prediction: How does 2024 Tennessee fare

Here we go:

Chattanooga - Win

NC State (N, Charlotte) - Win

Kent State - Win

@ Oklahoma - Toss-up Loss

@ Arkansas - Close Win

Florida - Close Win (need to break curse)

Alabama - Toss-up Close Win

Kentucky - Win

Miss State - Win

@ Georgia - Loss and I seriously doubt we are in this one unfortunately

UTEP - Win

@ Vanderbilt - Win

10-2 which should be good enough to make playoffs. Our season really comes down to the Alabama and Oklahoma games and not tripping up against Florida or Arkansas.

9-3 with a nice bowl bid.

The L's will be to Florida, Georgia and Arkansas.

I really think we win the OU game. I know it's on the road but I think we have an advantage in the trenches on both sides. I believe our OL is better than their DL. I know our DL is better than their OL because they're breaking in new starters across the front.
On paper I agree, but it will be a battle for sure. The atmosphere will be electric as OU will be trying to show off as a force in their first SEC matchup. Hopefully they will be overcome with the moment and we methodically take care of business. This will be Nico’s first taste of a hostile environment and his time to shine. Really big game for both teams as the loser is unlikely to make the playoffs.

I’ll play!

Chattanooga -obvious big W

NC State (N, Charlotte) - W by 3 scores

Kent State - obvious W

@ Oklahoma - nico’s coming out party, we’re the talk of college football the week after this one. W by double digits.

@ Arkansas - W by 2-3 scores

Florida - W by 2-3 scores, finally we have a large enough gap in talent offensively that the curse doesn’t matter. Nico rips them apart. Pearce has himself a day.

Alabama - close W, the difference is Nico > Milroe

Kentucky - W in an absolute ass whoopin

Miss State - W by 2-3 scores

@ Georgia - loss but we get them back in the playoffs

UTEP - obvious W

@ Vanderbilt - we hang 100 for the first time and the scoreboard malfunctions 😂

9-3/8-4 Most likely
7-5 Floor
Win all 5 games as heavy favorites (Chatt, Kent St, UTEP, Miss St, Vandy)

Win chance %
vs Chattanooga - 99%
n NC State - 60%
vs Kent State - 99%
@ Oklahoma - 50%
@ Arkansas - 65%
vs Florida - 65%
vs Alabama - 55%
vs Kentucky - 70%
vs Mississippi St - 75%
@ Georgia - 35%
vs UTEP - 97%
@ Vanderbilt - 90%

I think NC State could be a trap game. Early in the season with a lot of new players in key positions for us. Although it is a neutral sight game, it is in NC. They also are pretty good team, easily on par with UF, UK, Ms ST, Ark. They were pretty good last year and brought in some really good portal guys in key positions. They might end up being the 4th best team we play this year.
A lot of things would have gone wrong if we go 7-5 such as massive amounts of injuries. lack of player development, locker room turmoil etc. There are only 3 teams imo that have better rosters on paper than we do in bama, UGA, and Oklahoma. We will probably be underdogs in those games as well. The good news is, those teams will have question marks to address (especially Oklahoma) just like the Vols. We go 10-2 if UT takes care of the Sooners in Norman. GBO!!!

Go ahead and rem this post i think alot of folks are overlooking NC State this year. They are prob having the best run all around in sports they've had in 30 years. No one is talking about them but we get them on the road and their a sneaky good top 20 team.I think we should win but it isnt some automatic W by 3 scores some would like to make it..

Arkansas is another that worries me but if we wanna be a playoff team no matter the history of how bad we play in Fayeteville we have to win those games or we arent deserving of the playoffs. So assume we win at NC State like we should no gurantees then Oklahoma like always is the big season swinger.Win that and u have all the momentum u need. Its possible i think its gonna be a 3 point game in the end with a Vols victory.

In the end i trust our defense and Pearce to make Arnold want his mommy..And i just trust Nico more than i do Arnold!!I just hope he's still erratic snd tosses up 3 ints like he did the bowl game for us boy gets nervous and throws some ducks,we need our D to get after Okie earky and often.Another one of those will the refs let us play or do the ticky tacky favortism bs.Man so much goes into a season unless ur Georgia its damn near pointless to predict anything other than Chaos!

Vols will be an exciting team to watch. Offensively, the line will be solid and the WR position has the chance to be really good. A first time starter at QB with a lot of talent will lead to many great plays with an occasional mistake and/or bad half. The lack of proven quality depth at RB may cause a problem. Offense, if healthy, will be good enough to win 10-11 games.

Defensively, the Vols will be strong on the DL but there are still too many questions to be a dominant defense. The lack of quality depth at LB will cause problems on the edge and in the passing game but they should be somewhat improved over last year's group. Vols biggest problem will be in the defensive backfield. A lack of experience and depth will show up in big games once again this year. The Vols have to shore up the speed and ability at LB and DB to be a championship contender.

Vols lose at OU, Alabama, and at UGA and could very well lose one of NC State or Florida to finish 8-4 or 9-3. They will dominate some Big 10 game in a bowl game and be set up for a very good run for the next several years after that.

Two biggest variables IMO are how the defensive secondary and offensive line play. I believe our front 7will have good success against the run. Need to get pressure from the front 7 and have improved play by the secondary. If the OL can gel and stay healthy we have the skill players and the system to rack up plenty of points.

As others have noted, we can’t have the flat tire on the road as we’ve had in each of the last two seasons. We need to show up for our road games as we did against LSU in 2022 (and Missouri in 2021). We’ll know early as we have to play NC State, Oklahoma and Arkansas all away from the friendly confines of Neyland.

If we make it through September unbeaten, 10-2 or even 11-1 are achievable. The players and coaches have to be prepared each week and stay focused on each play…because folks like Florida and Kentucky will always be a war.

Yea, the NCS game should be a battle - they are better than most give them credit and will be looking for national recognition by knocking off an SEC team.

If Nico is who I think he is then we have never seen nothing like this on Rocky top with this coaching style… it’s the off schedule plays that will elevate the offense it’s hard to stop a heup offense period and if he has a qb that can turn a bad play call into a positive play then you get numbers like the 2022 offense… heup will dial it up correctly 75% of time and if Nico can sneak another 10-15% on plays where the defense had the better call then we will be very very tough to beat with arguably the best DL in the nation… if we can jump on teams early and make them have to drop back and pass a lot it could get bad for our opponents… I do think a lot of teams will be tough I just think we will be tougher we find a way to get 10 or 11 in the regular season.

We still see folks on these boards from time to time saying something like, "Well, if Josh Heupel can't do _______ this year, he's not the right one."

For whatever reason. Maybe they still suffer BVS. Maybe they very publicly didn't like the hire at the start, and now have to stick to their guns in an effort to save face. Maybe they're just negative people in general. Whatever.

But I do think this is the year Josh and the lads put paid to all of that, and it becomes evident we've got the coach we need for decades to come.

I'm not saying there won't still be someone out there saying stupid crap. There always is. Just saying no one is going to take him seriously after this season. That's how well I think 2024 is going to go for us.

Go Vols!

9-3 is the floor and 11-1 is the ceiling.

Georgia is just too deep still.

Bama with the new coach/nico/at Neyland could be the difference.

Oklahoma is an unknown, but their offensive line is suspect and their qb could be spending a large amount of time on the ground.

Florida, what can I say other than bad juju, but it’s at Neyland.

NC State is early, but it’s early for both teams.

7-5 likely but I can see 8-4 if things fall our way with injuries.

NC State concerns me but the Sooners do not. The officiating keeps me up at night. Win those two then 11-1 is possible and 10-2 probable. Lose one then 9-3 or 8-4. I like us at home but the biggest season maker is keep Nico and our OL starters healthy. If injury issue’s especially early then 6-6 or 7-5 could happen. We’ve had as much talent than we’ve had since I can remember so with 5 what should be gimmes, 7 should be the absolute floor. I expect 9-3. Better than last year but just short of the playoffs. I can see the NCAA making sure of it. See above on the officiating.

If we lose to Arkansas then Heupel isn’t the guy
For reasons I cannot explain, Arkansas is ALWAYS a tough game. No matter the year, no matter the rankings, we have never been able to abuse them like we have other middling SEC teams. But make no mistake, we owe them an ass whipping or two!

I just think football is won in the trenches, especially in the SEC. I get it though, Nico's first road game, but he is surrounded by dudes that have played plenty of big games on the road. It's also their QB's first big time game regardless of where it is.

I really hope it’s an afternoon game instead of a night one.
i expect the Sooners will be a slight favorite.
I can’t remember the last time that we beat someone as an underdog on the road at night.
