Predictions for the playoff game @ Ohio State

It's all heart with this pick. We got some DUDES up front and an Elite Run game. In my years of watching football, that always equated to winning. I got us 20-14 with Will Brooks doing something that closes them out in the end.

It’s hard to predict any CF game against closely matched teams.

My thoughts:

1. Fans should not make too much about their UM loss - that’s a HUGE rivalry game . . . And their performance has been very different against all others.

2. On paper, they have more overall talent.

3. All teams have an advantage playing at home. I think that will be even more true in the first round of the CFP.

4. UT has not looked great in road games.

Bottom line - if we had gotten a home game, I think we would have won a close game. I don’t see us beating them on the road.

The only way I see UT winning is if we have no turnovers and OSU has a few turnovers that we can convert into 10 plus points. That would negate their built in home field advantage.

OSU - 27
UT - 20

Let's be realistic here....There is no reality where the powers that be in college football allow UT to beat Ohio State in Columbus in the first round of the playoffs. It doesn't fit their narrative. Be ready for about 100-120 yards in penalties called against the Vols. I see at least 1 big score called back on us at the most inopportune time to shift momentum. We'll be playing 11 against 18 all night long.

Unfortunately, I see the Vols lose a close one 27-24.
Yes. The world is out to get you…..couldn’t imagine moping through life like this. We’ve been so successful the last 20 years that of course they have to hold us down……..

If CJH decides to party like it’s 2022 and play with urgency and play to win vs trying not to lose, I think we have a good chance. If he brings his 2023-2024 play book with him and tries to run out the clock, not so much

That could be said about almost any SEC QB or big ten.
When Nico has time he's a huge step above anything OSU has seen
Well, it is different with a more mobile QB (like Milroe) we mainly just wanted to contain him and keep him in the pocket. With Beck and Howard, we need to pressure and get them off their game plan.

I don’t think their game plan will be for Howard to throw down the field much. I think they will run more and throw quickly to slants and quick screens to their talented receivers to see if we can tackle consistently in space. Also, I think they will attack our LBs and safeties using the TE similar to what GA did to us plus I think you will see some check down throws to their backs. For our Vols, to pull off the upset, we need the Buckeyes to help us with turnovers and penalties. The biggest concern I have is our lack of discipline with penalties in road games. It was never cleaned up in the regular season. Nico must play his best game for us to beat them on the road at night. Hopefully, Sampson can bust some big runs in the game. I would think their game plan is to stop our run game and make Nico hit some balls in man coverage. If we pull this off, it will Coach Josh biggest win here in his tenure. I’m happy we made the playoffs but I do not like this matchup for us. The 2 teams I didn’t want to see was GA or OSU. But, anything is possible on any Saturday. Go Vols!

I want us to win this game so we can see the Volunteers in the Rose Bowl for the first time in 84 years, but considering the discipline of this team I take the Buckeyes and the points. I can not take a night game on the road against very good competition until Heupel shows me he knows how to win one of these.

Bank's experience with B10 football and OSU while at PSU pays off.
Vols click into gear.
I do not see Ohio State scoring over 17 points and expect Tennessee to score 28 to 31 points.
Not a shocker to some but more so that most anticipated.

I see us being our usual inconsistent offense, sputtering, oline taking drive killing penalties, punctuated by a few explosive plays for a couple scores. Defense will be fine if we stay aggressive and linebackers don't vacate the middle to the run.

If Georgia can score 31 then OSU can easily score more than 17.

OSU will. have the home field advantage, but we still in a close one.

UT defense stymies OSU offense early, same on the other side other than Nico making enough plays with his legs to sustain a couple drives. Halftime score 10-3 UT.

Second half, Sampson comes alive and finishes with 130+. Tennessee extends the lead, but Howard is able to get some chunk plays to Egbuka and/or Smith, who make great catches despite being tightly covered by our corners. Score early in the 4th something like 24-17 UT.

Sampson and Nico takeover drive midway through the fourth. Critical 3rd down pickups by Bru and Kitselman. At some point thereafter, Vol pass rush starts hunting. Pearce or Josephs get a critical sack. Howard starts to feel the walls closing in, and then there it is: a backbreaking interception for the Buckeyes, already down two scores. Brooks, McCoy, or for a bit of extra flavor, maybe Turrentine with the pick.

A few Sampson runs and wide screens to Bru and Thornton get the Vols in field goal range. Bucks D bows up, but Max Gilbert hits from 40ish to make it 34-17.

Last gasp for the lads in Scarlet. Tennessee D plays soft coverage, chunk plays to that formidable wr group. Howard gets a couple first downs with his legs. Bucks score another touchdown on a brilliant play by Smith. Onside kick is recovered by Ethan Davis. Three straight runs to burn their timeouts; on the third, Sampson converts a 3rd and 6, with Coop, Holden Staes, and Bru pushing him across the line to gain. Some kneel-downs, and the Big Orange are Rose-Bowl bound.

Final score 34-24, Vols.
