What happened to being coached up?

I wasn't talking about the QB's. I, apparently in agreement with CLK, don't think that's the biggest talent problem they have or will have. I am talking about guys like Langley, Donald, Brimfield, Sawtelle, and Vinson. Several guys out of that class are already gone due to being JUCO or not working out... In fact: 2 3*, 3 4*, and 1 5* from that class are no longer on the roster and Vinson isn't looking so good to make it to August.

I'm not particularly worried about the QB's.

Let me give you just a couple of examples based on the what guys are now projecting for this class. There are other problem spots as well but DT and OL are probably the worst.

OL 09 depth chart (not arguing about who fits where at this point just listing the names)

OT-Scott SR, Schofield FR
OG- McClendon SR, Bailey So
C- McNeil SR, Pope SO, Revis FR, Anderson RFR
OG- Richard SR, Brimfield SO
OT- Thomas SO, Sawtelle SO

What is left after the 4 seniors are gone? Do you really and truly believe that those guys plus a bunch of Freshmen are going to compete with UF et al for a championship? Do you think those guys can even compete for a winning record?

At DT you have: Williams (SR), Nelson (SR), Thomas (JR), Langley (SO), Hughes (FR), Jeffrey (FR)

Can you honestly look at that and still believe THIS CLASS isn't absolutely critical if Kiffin is to be competitve for the next 3 years?

They barely have enough warm bodies on the OL after this year.

Again, it isn't his fault. This is a great staff. But the reality is they need players NOW.[/QUOTE]

The Vols were No. 16 in the Rivals.com team rankings Thursday night, and No. 12 on the Scout.com list. Several of their commitments are listed as “soft,” but they’re also hosting several nearly 20 highly regarded players this weekend.

“I think we’re in a lot of people’s top three,” Lane Kiffin said. “We’ll see how we close here. But once again, to be that far behind, it’s hard for a kid and a family to make a decision when they’ve known the guys you’re going up against for two years and they’ve known your staff for two weeks.”

Brown - Georgia
Teague - TN
Kelly - Clemson
Montgomery - No idea. I think he stays relatively close to home though, ruling out Michigan, LSU, etc. That kid has been all over the place and is really tough for anybody to read.

If we can sign 3 OLs and 3 DTs that would be huge, but that means the pressure is on next to sign somewhere around 4-6 at both positions and will have to play some Freshman in 2010. It's not ideal, but other's like GA, FL and AL have had to do it recently. There's no easy way out of the hole that CLK inherited.

He'll have to go JUCO unless he signs 4. I hate the JUCO OL risk. None of them ever seem to be as good as advertised.
