Predictions

So you dont agree with kids being able to improve from last year and improve under different coaches and schemes?
Yes. And people have been blasting me on the other forum for saying UT has the talent to compete this year with a little help from this recruiting class. I think these guys will be able to "coach'em up" with the best of them. But the best BMW plant in the world can't produce a quality car without good steel. This staff needs players... and from his behavior, I think CLK agrees with much of what I've said here. He knows he has limited time and knows he needs players.

First of all our defense wasnt terrible last year and will be even better this year.
Agreed but not as good as last year and not good enough to win games without much improved offense.
So personally by looking at our roster i see talent and opportunity.
I see opportunity THIS year but most disagree and even I think their chances are less than 10%. What I don't see is competitive talent in the years beyond to replace the guys who are done after this year. Those MUST come from this class or else play as Freshmen in future classes... that won't get it done against UF et al.

Our offense was terrible and predictable, which Lane will make sure is better.
Really? How so? I hope you are right but unless they get performance out of guys who have badly underachieved and may not have been as talented as advertised then they aren't going to improve.
We have a new system and I think we already have the players the be able to play in the system, therefore your roster assumption and us not having the players is not true.
UT will be thin this year without help from this class. Next year they'll be much worse than thin.
So say what you want about the roster, but we do have talent on this team and we do have tremendous coaching. So what other "facts" do you have to prove this team will not be good under lane?
You didn't really read the roster did you? It is on Rivals if you subtract the guys who already left. Look and you'll see what I'm talking about...

Enlighten me with about how many actual starters we are losing this year from last years players? But I will agree with you about the team being thin with depth, and our team seems to be missing one thing that the SEC needs, Speed. I respect your opinions, but i just dont think its going to be as bad as your speculating it to be.

Gotta go but I leave you with this "positive" thought. If I were a top recruit, I'd be lined up to play for CLK and UT. Why? Because I think Kiffin WILL play young players early if they're good. I don't think they could play for a better coaching staff.

I think Phillips would play very early... why would he even consider going elsewhere? Oku... same deal. Brown and the other WR's? Without any question. Hopefully when they sit down and hash it all out they'll see the opportunity I see... and the quickly depleting roster.

All that said... the recent recruiting news isn't good... not at all.

Here's a challenge. JUST look at UT's OL roster then explain to me how UT produces a SEC quality OL in '10 without serious help from the 09 class. They're going to lose 4 starters and there's no proven replacements behind them... and almost no warm bodies.

They lost 5 offensive starters as least 3 on D including their best two DL's.

After next year, they'll lose 4 or 5 OL's who have started, Hardesty, 1 or 2 TE's, two WR's, Berry, Dan Williams, Rico McCoy, Wes Brown, Morley, and Johnson.... assuming no one else gets in trouble.

But I will agree with you about the team being thin with depth, and our team seems to be missing one thing that the SEC needs, Speed. I respect your opinions, but i just dont think its going to be as bad as your speculating it to be.
Thin this season goes to vapor next season unless they get a very good 09 class... Can you really not see that?

The rank of the class doesn't matter, it depends on what Kiffin gets out of the players. Hopefully he can get guys in that he thinks will be good players for him and his system. If this class gets ranked #1 like our class did a couple years ago, and flops then everything you are saying about us having the number 35, number 3, etc classes doesn't mean anything.

AND there is this thing called JUCO where next year we could bring in guys ready to play OL in the SEC.

AND maybe some of the guys who have been unproductive under the other staff will rise to the challenge and finally reach their potential.

AND maybe we pull in a great class this year and it makes you happy.

Everything you have said makes sense, but you are leaving out important if's and's and but's. I think Kiffin is going to bring in the players he wants and the ones he thinks will be successful to bring them out of this hole they are in. Kiffin knows what he is doing and regardless of where some 18 year old is ranked on rivals, Kiffin will bring in the talent he and his coaching staff evaluate. All I am saying is that on signing day regardless of where this class is ranked it doesn't matter. What matters is when he gets the pads on them and they start learning the systems and putting everything they have gained in the winter (strength & conditioning) to work.

Crompton was a highly rated QB coming out of HS... Sam Bradford was a low 3 star... basing your opinion on class rankings is foolish.

There are several contradictions in your argument here and on the main forum where you're actually saying UT can and should win the SEC next year, but I'll just go with this one.

You said earlier that Kiffin would have two 4* and a 3* guy to work with at QB, so why are you backtracking on it now by calling them underachievers or just not all that talented to begin with? You've also said numerous times that Kiffin and his staff are better than the ole "Hall of Fame" coaches' staff, so why worry about QBs now?

Make your predictions -- Edit your post as much as you'd like before NSD. All for fun & bragging rights. You get a point for every star you predict right and subtract every one you add to your list incorrectly (Star Ratings per Rivals). So if you guess only three commits, all being 4 Star players, you'd get 12 points.

Here's my NSD List:

Askew
Edwards
Gordon
Green
Hollins
Jeffery
Mitchell-Thornton
Oliver
Revis
Rogers
Schofield
Skyes
Walls
Williams
Lacy
Teague
King
Myles

Current 'commits' we lose in final week:
Oku
Phillips
Shackelford
Stokes
Thigpen

Guys we barely miss:
Patterson
M. Brown
Montgomery
Charles
Z. Mason

Thigpen will not be coming here. We have told him he doesnt fit our system.

Oku sounds very shaky at this point too.

The big D is loading up but its like 30/70 class for the D when we need the help on the O side. I hope they can give out a few of them Lexuses to the O linemen and backs:eek:k:

Everyone take note, these are the most accurate predictions on the interwebs.

These are the kids we lose that are currently "committed"
Thigpen-obviously
Stokes-he might as well say he has decommitted
Philips-appears that he has dropped us

These are the kids we get:
Greg King
Marlon Brown
Darren Myles
Kendrick Hardy
Marsalis Teague

Take that to the bank and deposit please.
