Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

I have no idea what I am doing. One of my friends keeps telling me to get Haaland. I would probably have to give up DeBruyne to do that. Not sure that is the move I want to make. Although, this time last year, I could not have told you who either of these guys was.

Haaland is risky for me for the price. In the community shield game against Liverpool and then now just this past weekend, he only had less than 10 touches each game. He will definitely get goals too though so I get the draw. In the end, I decided that De Bruyne was the safer option especially with him being a midfielder and getting more points off goals/assists then Haaland will. It’s probably a wash in the end.

I know we have asked this in the past but thought it would be a good time to ask again since it’s a new season and a lot of new people to the sport and Volnation. For some maybe they followed one team and dropped another.
Include any league or level of Club teams, National teams even NCAA, men’s, women's etc,

Which team or teams do you support?
How did you become a fan of your team or teams?
Chattanooga FC, Bayern Munich, Glasgow Celtic, and a general viewer of the Prem although I tend to have a soft spot for Newcastle, Palace, Tottenham, and weird as it sounds, Arsenal.

Chattanooga is obvious. I'm from here, they were the first live soccer matches I ever went to, and it's one of the only "true" clubs in America. Bayern was one of the first teams I played with on FIFA because at the time, my favorite player Miroslav Klose was their striker. I didn't even realize I had picked a super club as they were nowhere near the dominant force they are now. But they were still a consistent Champions League side and that's where I could see them. But then in 2011 or 2012 they started showing the Prem on cable, and I started to follow that league more to see Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey, but it wasn't until 2016 that I really started to learn about the league, immerse myself in European football culture. I like Newcastle because I could understand their pain as a Tennessee fan as far as being a deeply passionate and loyal fanbase that is **** on by the clown in charge. Palace because I like Wilifred Zaha, but now Ebereche Eze and Chris Richards as well, it's a young team with some exciting talent and Vieira is doing a good job with them so far. Tottenham because they have one of my favorite players in Heung Min Son, and Arsenal because they look like they're turning it around and they have some really good young talent. Celtic I have a soft spot because I was raised Catholic.

This is a fantastic response. Wow!

What do you mean by one of the only “true clubs” in America?

Most American teams are franchises that are solely owned by one person or family. Chattanooga is run by a board, and partially owned by the fans, like most in Europe the club is indelibly tied to the community.

I didn’t know that. Very cool.

Dang. Forgot that Darwin Nunez getting that straight red card last weekend means I can’t play him this weekend. Going to have to look at a lineup change this weekend and I don’t like my bench haha.

Nashville SC. It was the team that finally got me into soccer ( I had tried with DC United (Redskins) and NYCFC (Yankees)). Finally having a "local" team to support definitely helped. I started going to games while they were still in the USL and played at First Horizon Park. Got in as a First String member when they made the jump to MLS.

Chelsea. Mainly because of Pulisic. I also love their crest and the color blue (don't want that getting out there too much lol).

In order of when I became a fan.

Brazil - Pele. He was in my top 3 favorite athletes when I was a kid, and he still is. Challenging to get as fired up as I used to because of Neymar.
Memphis Rogues - 3 seasons in the old NASL,. Went to most of the home games, including a 1-0 wine over the NY Cosmos with Franz Beckenbauer.
US National team - Didn't know the US had a national team when I became a fan of Brazil.
Barca - had a girlfriend in the mid-90s from Barcelona and she was a fan, so I became one.
DC United - Lived in the DMV when MLS began and went to games at RFK.
San Jose Quakes - Living in the Bay Area for a long time I became a fan and went to a lot of games. Too bad they suck.

Spurs - Became interested when Keller was there, then again in Dempsey's short stint. Really started following once Kane started playing full time.

I want Pulisic out of Chelsea, but man, I do not want him at Man U.

Would be such a bad move. He can get playing time at a number of other clubs that are interested without having to go to a train wreck like United. There also is most likely going to be less of a log jam in attackers at Chelsea this year, but he doesn’t really fit the current system either. ****** part is Tuchel doesn’t really want to play 3-4-3 but we just don’t have the personnel to change right now. Need a good CDM to switch to his system of choice a hybrid 4-2-3-1. That would suit Pulisic so much better, but it’s still a year away at least.

Mike Dean, the off-field VAR referee from Sundays Chelsea - Spurs match, has just wrote an “article” or statement release, whatever you want to call it. He admits that he got it wrong and should have sent Anthony Taylor to the monitor for him to have final say. His reasoning at the time when he saw it mid-game: He didn’t think a man getting pulled to the ground by his hair was “violent”. Now that he’s had time to look closer he says “I got it wrong”.

AKA: Mike Dean is getting fed to the wolves to protect Anthony Taylor from further scrutiny because everyone and their mothers knows how bad of a no call it was.

Ok, I've played a million fantasy leagues on yahoo in every sport, but I can't figure out how to waive a hurt player and pick up another. Please help. Oh yeah, I need help making guys "captains" and "wildcards". Sorry, I'm really kind of embarrassed

I figured it out. I'm blaming it on being high 75% of the time or maybe just a different version of fantasy league than I'm used to, which is yahoo

It took me a while to figure out how to change the damn formation. Was looking for a button/setting
(i.e. it’s not just you)

Changing formations:
Say you’re playing a 3-4-3. There would be 5 defenders, 2 midfielders and 3 forwards. If you wanted to switch to a 4-3-3.. you just click on one of the defenders, hit replace, and replace him with a midfielder and the formation will automatically change to 4 defenders, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Wildcard:
I just used this. You only get 2 all year. One before the January transfer window and one after. The purpose of this is to make as many free transfers at that moment as you want. Normally, you only get 1 free transfer in a match week. So if someone gets hurt or you like another player better you can swap them out.. but only one transfer a week. You can make more than 1 transfer in a week, but you’ll have to use points to make more than 1. I would use the wildcard wisely. If you like your lineup but want to change 2 players, I’d just do it in 2 weeks.. one transfer per week. If you have more than just a few players you want to change and reshape a roster, that’s where this comes in handy.

Captain:
The captain earns double points. Pick wisely. All you do is click on whatever player you think will have the best week and click the checkbox for captain. You can change your captain weekly.

3x Captain:
I think you only get one of these to use whenever you want. It’s the same thing as captaincy but you bet triple points not double.

I thought Mike Dean retired after last season. Is he just working as a VAR now? If so, your last statement makes a lot of sense. Let a guy who isn’t actually going to be reffing on the field take the heat for missing the call as opposed to will be out there week in and week out.

Yeah he retired from on-field refereeing but still does VAR as the 4th referee. He’s definitely the scape goat. Anthony Taylor was the on field ref and he was getting the worst of it so this is Mike Dean becoming the sacrificial lamb.

Forest have signed something like 16 in the summer transfer window. I admire their commitment to it. Cooper may not by the most exciting manager, but his style may have a better chance of keeping a squad up longer term than either of the other 2 new arrivals. I am rooting for them to have a long stay in the PL.

Sorry, family sold some land and I had to go get acheck for a tenth of it. But, thank you so much, as soon as I get back home, I'm going to my team, changing my formation, changing one of my captains since he is hurt/off my team, now

Glad you got it sorted. All it takes is one big week and you are at the top of this thing.
