My point isn't so much with Nkunku specifically, it’s that Chelsea in my opinion need a true striker. Nkunku to me is a similar player (positionally speaking) to Pulisic, Havertz, Sterling, etc. It just seemed to me, especially in this past window, that they were throwing around money just for the sake of throwing it around and the moves seemed more like going after the hot commodity vs true fit with club.
It doesn’t really have to do with the cash splashed though per say. To me, net spend is much more important as well as identifying targets who actually fit your philosophy - which is where I start to have problems with some of these clubs. For example, look at City a few years back snapping up wingbacks - for me it’s like why other than seemingly spending money only to spend it. With Chelsea - again not so much with Nkunku but it seemed like they tried to buy anyone and everyone this window. I think they need to try and move on some of their current players instead of just buying more and either loaning / burying players on bench. This is again though a weird statement to make around this transaction in my opinion. Pulisic is gone before next season.. their paths won’t even cross most likely. Mount under Potter finally seems to be moving to his more natural position in attacking mid and Havertz is swappable all over the front. Sterling will mainly play on the left side. After that there’s not a log jam of talent in the front. Nkunku, if his game translates to the PL, will likely be a main fixture in the lineup.
As for the summer, I only have one complaint, and it’s the same complaint all of LFC fans had too: Midfield. Everyone else that was bought has turned out good, fit what we were missing and has featured. Only one I’m slightly worried about it Koulibaly but he’s just going to need time to figure out the PL. If you don’t like the prices that are being paid, then well, you may want to close your eyes on transfer windows for the future because it’s just getting more and more expensive to buy talent now. Cash will be splashed.
I don’t play season long, but I do play DFS, which I enjoy more. A lot of it is all about playing the set piece takers. A lot of DFS is also about leverage and playing lower owners players. You guys playing Premier League Fantasy, do you have any weird rules like not picking or playing a player because of a team you can’t stand or if they are playing against your team or maybe not playing players from your favorite team?

I don’t follow the EPL as much as I do the Italian leagues, so I don’t really have anyone I hate. So I, like Boehly, will buy anything not nailed down. You guys playing Premier League Fantasy, do you have any weird rules like not picking or playing a player because of a team you can’t stand or if they are playing against your team or maybe not playing players from your favorite team?
I don’t disagree, in fact I almost edited to say most of these gripes stem from Roman’s era. Similarly, I don’t think Chelsea is in the same stratosphere as City/PSG when it comes to offending FFP, etc.I mean it’s hard to judge a guy on one window when he had no Director of Football. Contrary to popular belief at the time, myself included, Tuchel was not as involved in the selection of targets as everyone thought. Boehly apparently had a bad vibe with Tuchel from the start and it felt like this window was get some good players that can fit multiple systems and also fit needs. He did that. As for being connected to every player under the sun, he was, but just because a name comes up doesn’t mean Boehly actually went after them. Agents push their clients on everyone and Boehly was making connections with as many people as he could being a new owner. Obviously when he’s doing this, names are going to be mentioned and agents are going to push their clients. A perfect example of this is Ronaldo. Boehly never went after him, his agent Mendes who is a very connected agent, kept pushing him on Boehly. So all of these names that were floated about Chelsea, only a small amount were actual targets. De Ligt, De Jong, Raphinha.. those are targets that he went after and didn’t get. Other ones he never did but there were tons of rumors of connections still.
As for the loans and buys, it doesn’t help that every club outside of the PL is broke as hell lol. Pulisic, Ziyech, Jorghino.. all could have left but no one came with legit offers. They were all loan deals and Boehly said no to loans. Most of the loan options didn’t even have buy clauses in the end! Hard to offload players that no one wants to buy. I mean Ziyech we were willing to sell for 20M-30M… and Ajax and AC Milan both said no even though they wanted him, all because he’s too expensive. It’s a business too and Boehly isn’t about to take losses because Roman bought players that aren’t apart of the long term picture anymore.
My main point is the gripes you have are fair, but most of them revolve around the old regiment of Roman. Boehly hasn’t really had a chance to show his full philosophy yet.

Also on MF - I’ll kindly take Kante off your hands . I tell one of my buddies who supports CFC that all the time.
I think CFC have a noticeable dip in form when he is not out there. He bosses the MF. I don’t think LFC would go for him due to age though - although they have gone against that philosophy some recently If deal makes sense (eg Thiago). You may get a chance. Chelsea wants to keep Kante, as do I, but he turned down the 1st new contract offer because he is adamant about a 3 or more year contract and Chelsea only offered 2 year contract. He is (was?) the most expensive player on the roster and the last 2-3 seasons he’s missed a lot of games. When he’s healthy, he’s still elite, just look at Chelsea’s CL run 2 seasons ago. He powered that trophy run. Just needs to stay healthy and Chelsea has concerns there.
I personally think if he leaves it will be PSG. They want him bad and he may want to end his career back in France.

Would just like to take this opportunity to point out that the club with the best defense in the league so far spent exactly £0 on their starting CB’s. One on a free from Burnley, the other on loan from Wolves.View attachment 496311
In pretty good form as well.
