At least Spurs coach is honest. He said they got away with one on the trash decision by Hooper. Advantage was played and then inexplicably blew the whistle when Grealish was crashing in. Just crazy. It’s always worse when it’s the last action of the game.

Our fanbase has really responded to him in a short amount of time. As have the players.

He’s a breath of fresh air after the Conte and Mourinho years. And he seems to know what he’s doing which is a positive since not many of us fans were particularly excited by the hire. For the first time in a while, I actually like the direction we’re headed in as a club.

Probably trying to prove to them that he was worth the 400mil Chelsea paid for him and they should have let him leave when he wanted.
He was said to upset at the process as he thought they overvalued him to keep him after promising him in the January window that he could leave in the summer if a “good offer” came in. That good offer just kept getting higher than what Caicedo’s camp thought it should be.

Idk, Brighton is well within their rights to slap a value on a player that they think is valid. With Tony Bloom making his money in poker and sports betting, he will always get his money when it comes to a negotiation. Player needs to accept that it may take longer or go higher. Tony Bloom is just exceptional at that.

Footballing aside, he’s obviously a bright manager, I enjoy his interactions with the media. It’s refreshing to hear him just be brutally honestly and not be worried about following the “coach speak”. I think soccer for the most part is a lot better than American sports in terms of “coach speak”, but Ange does it with more honesty and straight to the point interactions than most.

Caicedo avoiding second yellow just a few minutes before this play.
Was going back to look at something else and just noticed.. Caicedo was never actually booked in the match. Thought maybe it was a typo so I looked at multiple outlets and none have him as receiving a yellow. Went on Twitter to find out and I guess one of the times that everyone thought it was him getting book was actually another Chelsea player. The broadcast even incorrectly said it was him. So really, he was not close to a red card, it would have been his first yellow.

He’s certainly off to a good start, but at some point he’s going to have to be slightly more pragmatic to make it in the PL. That suicidal high line after going down to nine men against Chelsea was one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen. If Chelsea had just been average in front of goal that day they would have scored 10.

For sure. The praise he got after that Chelsea game for saying he was sticking to his game plan or play style no matter what was ridiculous. With Chelsea’s difficulties beating a low block and just our lackluster finishing in general he could have easily salvaged a point.

I also think it’s interesting how fast the PL always seems to adapt defensively to what a manager likes to do tactically. I was listening to a podcast the other day talking about how teams are playing De Zerbi differently this year and mainly about how they press them when Brighton is in their own end. Im not proficient enough to explain the nuances so I won’t even try but it’s something about how they are strategically pressing different areas like the half spaces centrally rather than an all out high intensity press, so that they can force the CBs to play the ball wide instead of central or have to play it long. Not really any different then the goals of most press systems but it’s just less of a desire to win the ball back deep in Brightons territory and more about winning the ball back in the 2nd level around midfield because you are dictating where the Brighton CBs outlet to. Again, not necessarily different than the goal of pressing in general but just knowing where and how to press based off the way the manager wants to play.

None of this means that De Zerbi has been “figured out” or anything like that. Brighton is still doing well in the league and have adapted fine. Point of the comment is more that as a manager now in the PL you always have to be adapting and analyzing the way you play. What worked one year may not be as efficient the next. Pep for instance is constantly tinkering with things like this. You really find out about a manager when a league stars to adapt to you and if you can then keep staying ahead of the curve.

Also, to be clear, adapting your play because others are adapting to you isn’t just a PL thing. That’s everywhere. It’s just amplified because of the competition level of the PL and how much talent is here: players and managers included.

He is very blunt and he doesn't makes a lot of excuses. I think that's the most refreshing thing for Tottenham fans aside from the fact that the players actually seem to be happy and bought in to what the team is trying to do (which was not always the case with Conte or Mourinho). He certainly doesn't utilize 'coach speak' in press conferences or yell from the touchline very often. I think the players are responding to that as well.

I'm secretly hoping Ange turns into a Klopp/Liverpool situation for us but I highly doubt we'll get that lucky. We seem to be on a stable trajectory for the first time in a while so I'll settle for that. If we can get an FA or League Cup out of him to end our drought, I'll be ecstatic.

So I watch every single City game. They miss Debruyne and Gundogan in a huge way. I think they are still the best team in the world without Gundo (Foden is excellent), but when Rodri is also missing (yellow accumulation) they look pedestrian in the midfield. I have not seen City ever look like this in the midfield under Pep. Early this year we struggled without Rodri. Today is more of the same. Weird seeing City get pinned back. Still have a world class front line, GK, and defense, but man they need those two players back.

I’ve never seen a Pep City team getting battered like this, the only thing missing is a Villa goal.
