Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Agreed. I’m sure it’s a dwindling fan base. One indication they don’t have the pull that they used to, none of us are United fans in this thread.
I need Fanatics to hurry up and get the new authentic Chelsea (with the sponsor) kit.

So you can burn it?
This is a great idea, honestly. All of the fans need to pick one item and burn it, Ted Lasso style, so we can reverse the curse. In addition, the club should also bring in a gypsy to see if there is some type of injuries curse that someone out on the club 2 years ago. Maybe even light the biggest bushel of sage possible and walk around Cobham with it. We will take anything we can get at this point.

With the PL performance at CL only getting 2 teams through to the knockout rounds, that might mean the PL won’t get the 5th CL spot next year. Europa teams all advancing I think at least. That’ll help.

That is astonishing to me, but I guess it still shows the pull that their 90s/2000s run had. Soccer fans are a younger demographic (30s/40s), and that group of people was kids during it, but I figured City's recent run of dominance would have much bigger pull.

Having said that, if someone just walked up to me and said "Name the first PL team that comes to mind," odds are I'd probably say Manchester United.

EDIT: I guess that's why you should just go to the most recent post in the thread first. Every United actually being a City makes way more sense.

Question for everyone.
We all already have our teams that we support and are stuck with right?
But, if you were a new fan and could pick from any teams, who would it be?

I think it would probably be Aston Villa or Brighton.
How about y’all?

This is tough. I have a draw to Brentford for some reason. Their stadium looks really neat, the crest is cool (who doesn't like bees?) and their rise to the Premier League is impressive.

In the Championship and below I've always liked rebuilding Preston North End in FIFA so I'd say them. Same thing, I think their crest is really cool and their colors are nice too.

Those are probably the best candidates at this time, but outside the Big Six (really seven now with Newcastle’s money) there aren’t really any guarantees of being ever-present in the PL. Until we get US TV coverage of The Championship that is as complete as the PL, relegation basically means you lose the ability to watch your team. Maybe for just a year, maybe forever.

A few years ago I would have said Leicester and Everton were safely in that category as well, but look where they are now. Leicester playing the The Championship and Everton only surviving the last couple seasons under near-miraculous circumstances.

Of the teams currently in the Premier League? I’d say Brighton or Everton. I like the way Brighton run their club and I’ll usually root for a small market team defying the odds. I like Everton mainly due to the outstanding fan support they have. As a Tottenham fan, I empathize with a proud, tradition rich club struggling to win anything of note (or in Everton’s case, just trying not to get relegated).

It would get trickier if we went down into the Championship and lower. Wrexham is a bit of a feel good story. I have a soft spot for Coventry and Leicester since James Maddison has been one of my favorite players for a while now (even before he signed this summer).

As a side note, it doesn’t matter what sport we’re talking about, I can’t seem to bring myself to root for any red teams. I wonder if that’s just some random psychological quirk or if there’s a statistical correlation demonstrating that people are initially drawn to sports teams based on color appeal.

I picked out City knowing basically nothing about the premier league, just that most people around me cheered for United and I didn’t want to bandwagon on them. I didn’t know City was on such a tear recently. Last year was the first year I tried to watch every game. I didn’t fully grasp what winning the triple meant but every second was great.

If I could go back and pick a team knowing a little bit more now, I might pick Tottenham or Newcastle. Newcastle because a coworker likes them and I’ve causally followed them for that reason. Tottenham seems to be kinda on the cusp until they got the 10 point deduction.

Wrexham has been fun after watching the show.

Feyenoord gets an honorable mention because that’s who I play for in my fifa career lol

Edit: Everton got the point deduction not Tottenham. Got them confused for a second.

I'd probably go with Crystal Palace.
A. They have a great crest (easily Top 5 in the PL IMO).

B. They're partially owned by the Commander's new owner.

To be fair, the Chelsea game was sort of a 10 point deduction for us.

I’d probably say Brentford or Brighton. When Brighton is playing well it really is a fun team to watch the way they play. I’m not as sure on why Brentford sticks out, but they do. That win against Arsenal 2 seasons ago where it was their first game back in the PL in however many decades was really cool. That moment has stuck with me.

What does this mean?
Hah, yeah, context would have been nice. Nkunku will be back in the squad this weekend. Been injured since preseason. He was supposed to be the one up front that the play would dictate through, so he’s been a big loss.

He’s not going to single handedly fix our scoring issues but here’s to hoping he at least helps.

I have no idea about the balloon aspect of the photo. I just know his goal celebration for his career has always been to take a balloon in the color of his team out of his sock and blow it up like that 🤷🏻‍♂️
