It’s always selectively enforced. Take for example this moment from Everton/City a couple weeks ago.Giving yellows for dissent has to be the most inconsistent ref decision of the year
I thought the same when watching. The whole city squad ran over to ref. Odegaard had about 10 temper tantrums today. Nothing. Harvey argues with one call. Yellow. It’s always selectively enforced. Take for example this moment from Everton/City a couple weeks ago.

It looks like they’ve just scored with the four players at the right of the picture wheeling away to celebrate. In fact all four of those guys, and one other off screen, all stopped playing and surrounded the ref to protest not being awarded a PK for a handball. Rather than booking some or all of them for dissent, he just allows them intimidate him into awarding a penalty. In fairness, VAR probably gives the PK on the inevitable review, but that still shouldn’t be allowed.
I feel they are actually good for the game. It makes teams have to actually have some squad depth, they should force managers to rotate and rest players, showing they actually understand workload management. It also is the best chance for some of the clubs that don’t have a 1 billion dollar wage bill to actually have a chance at winning something.TAA injury makes me realize why I hate all these cups
