For sure. It takes 2 perfect shots vs just 1.

But more than that for distributive benefit. It doesn’t matter how awesome the SuperCarrier is - it can only be in 1 place at a time.

With 2 Lightning Carriers, 1 can be in the Taiwan Strait while the other is in the Red Sea.

This is the problem for carriers and other surface ships. The hypersonic cruise missiles coming at 5 or 6Mach are almost impossible to shoot down reliably. They are simply too fast. We have counter measures but they are not effective.

We should definitely be building attack subs as fast as we can. They are our "Tip of the Spear" when it comes to China or Russia. By posting a nuclear submarine off the coast of an enemy armed with 30 nuclear warheads mounted on Trident cruise missiles, we can ensure 1st strike capability in any nuclear exchange...hopefully that never happens though. Far more practical is their ability to remain undetected for long periods, then launch Tomahawks with conventional warheads to destroy targets at great distances without risking pilots and aircraft. We need to build more subs as fast as we possibly can. We should also get S.Korea shipyards involved in building more surface ships for us. It will save us Billions if we do...

And now the Trump administration has shut down efforts to combat election interference. Add to that trying to replace the CIA employees, it's been a banner week for Putin.

He could not have asked for a better set of favors from his boy, Trump.

When hypersonic missiles can be steered to hit a moving target I'll worry about them. But yeah, need more subs, lightning carriers and destroyers.

They're coming in hotter than that even, yes, no real defense and no real defenses in the future. An enemy could completely wipe out a whole carrier group with a few hypersonics with say 30+ kinectic warheads each or a mixture of kinectic and explosive warheads. Relatively inexpensive for the potential great reward. I seriously doubt anyone has an answer other than.... smaller i.e. less risk or spread the risk out further.

Carrier aircraft are just too short legged, putting the carrier in more vulnerable position, say 500 plus miles from target. Several Hundreds of B-21 for same price could accomplish much of this, F-35B on small islands and subs subs subs for pop up targets.

cheap(ish) drones. Both attack and defense. i think the carriers can stay more relevant if they adapt. lose 10 planes or so, and stuff the space with cheap drones. Some can be prevent defense types "lurking" away from the carrier to provide eyes and ears and early intercepts. others can be offensive in nature.

the issue with any defensive system is you need it to work 100% of the time to do its job, but you only need the offensive stuff to work once to do its job.

The average daily wage in Gaza used to be about $13/day.

The average hourly wage in Nice, France (French Riviera) is about $24/hour.

I bet if we (or anyone else) can get some young Palestinians some Riviera-like jobs where they make $50k/year instead of $3300/year, they would be a lot more inclined to choose peace over conflict. Probably won't ever happen, but it is worth a shot; the last 70 years of international efforts haven't gotten us much.

(Disclaimer: All stats from quick Google searches, your figures may differ, but the point remains.)

No, I am certainly not, LG, your posts exhibit some serious signs of being over-the-top disturbed about Trump. Or you're a bad troll.

You're not really reading what was actually said and/or understanding how Trump works. He says outrageous, or seemingly outrageous stuff. For example, we are no closer to having plans for putting boots on the ground in Gaza than we were a week ago.

His idea has merit if for no other reason is that he is right on the core idea that the Palestinians live in a crappy place with few resources and even crappier leadership that leads to having their homes destroyed and dying by the thousands every so often.

So he brings a new idea to the table. It is an idea! And all the deranged leftists, including you, my friend, crap your pants. A framework to involve the powers in the area to make something worthwhile. He's not Henry Kissinger and throws out ideas as a basis for discussion in less than politic language.

Believe this or not, I say this as a friend: calm the hell down.
