I’m legitimately curious at this idea of getting richer only comes at the expense of others, and in this particular case, it is a direct result of a president inaugurated about a month ago.

when you say "harassed" I see normal interaction with the cops. I have been stopped by the cops multiple times, I guess because a lone white man walking thru a not nice neighborhood of mostly minorities looks like he is buying drugs. If being stopped is what your entire complaint is about, I think that is way overblown.

Was talking to my Latino foreman today, who is a legal citizen. He brought up Trump (I don't go there) and said " Trump is not a bad person, I understand. About 80% of Latinos are hardworking guys...good guys. The others that are stealing or sell drugs need to go. " I mentioned the gang members from MS13 and Tren, he said " I hate those guys, makes (us) look bad...me and my people."
There havent been any round-ups etc here, and Charlotte has a huge Latino population due to construction always booming. Those who commit crimes after coming here will likely be deported. Regular hardworking guys that stay out of trouble will probably get to stay here. If they actually deported all the illegals, construction would come to an immediate stop. I never see white or black folks building apartments except in management like me. All the concrete guys, framers, MEPs, drywall, trim, cabinets, tile....you name it. All Amigos. Literally 100%. On every job. Been that way here for at least the 15 years I have been a Superintendent. Some of them are legal (or at least have papers) but the majority are not. I'm not sure it's a fully developed argument to claim that no citizens will do construction jobs because only/mostly illegal migrants are currently doing construction jobs. We have a reference to what that market looked like before it went to illegals. We can't discount what that market may look like if illegals were removed from the market.

Understood, which plays into my use of the term: 'marke't. If we remove illegal residents/migrants/etc from the work force, then the market shifts. Pay shifts. Sure, cost of construction may go up a bit, but more $$$ goes into the US economy, as opposed to likely having a major portion sent back to home countries.

Also, that is a large reason people criticize the argument with (hyperbole) language like "slave labor", serfdome, etc.

If we want a free market, we need equal standing for hiring. Would we see more US citizens/residents taking jobs if they were competing in pay with people who don't work under the table, or on stolen SS #s, with the same rights that can't abused, who aren't working cheaply because they're living 12 in a house, etc...?

Many in my family finish concrete, so I know where you are coming from. It stung when your price was cut by 15 man immigrant crews
But there was a clear difference in quality of workmanship. So we stayed busy in the high end projects

But it's true. There are just certain industries (like shrimping) that cannot find enough American workers. In fact, a decline in migrant workers shakes things up so badly they end up having to lay off some of their US workers (presumably because there is nobody to manage).

Trump was elected due to many promises , a biggie that was often cited by his supporters was ending inflation day one. He said he would make America affordable again.
Inflation rose 3% in January, Feb will likely see the same, he said its all Bidens fault and nothing he can do about it. And says there's going to be some tariff suffering by consumers.
