maybe I am misunderstanding, but isn't COBAL/COBOL the system SS uses?

regardless of the age argument the pure numbers Elon is spouting does seem very suspect, but seems it would actually be pretty easy to prove one way or the other. Its been one of my complaints with DOGE, they aren't really showing their math. I have no problem believing SS is wasting money and there is fraud, but a 5x amount seems laughable. we would already be out of money if we were paying out 5x what we could ever bring in.

Certainly noted, but I would reframe this as the Democrats remade the electorate. At the end of the day they shot themselves in the foot with an unwillingness to let go of the loony crazies and divisive ideas that the country was simply fed up with. And props to the Trump team for messaging that resonated with the disenfranchised majority.

To be fair, give it time and Republicans will do the same. This just seems to be the case no matter who you install in government. Sometimes, I wonder if we were better off in the days of Kings and Queens. Hard to argue that nations like France are doing better today versus where they were at in the 1600 or 1700s.

Aristotle wrote a great thesis called "On Politics" that basically sums up that any government type can be good or bad based on the ethicacy of those in charge.

COBOL is a programming language.


The government still has a lot of systems still running COBOL. i believe you can make bank these days if you know COBOL because most of the guys who were experts in this have mostly retired.

This was the relevant Musk quote. He referenced the number of "eligible" SS numbers in the system versus the size of the US population. He didn't say there were 400 million people receiving SS payments.
