President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

How have schools gotten away with restricting speech in the past?
There have certainly been instances of schools expelling students over speech.

I think there is probably little doubt as to what would actually happen if a couple students paraded through the Harvard Commons cloaked in white hoods, advocating for the forced removal of black people.
Colleges? I guess I’d have to see the fact pattern.

Time, place, and manner restrictions are still viable and there are still the same free speech exceptions.

When I was at UT there was a middle aged woman street preacher and anti abortion group who would come and exercise their right to the space between the library and architecture building.

I was in college from the early 80s to mid 80s. Protests in those days were much more creative with ZERO violence. The manner of protest at the SOTU the other night was weak and out of touch. The Dems should have stood up and clapped harder than the Republicans, FOR EVERYTHING! 🤭 Especially when Trump gave him his stare

I was thinking of the big story a few years back at Harvard - but that was the school rescinding admission over speech, so not exactly the same thing.

I want to say I remember this girl at Alabama, but I may be conflating her with another white sorority girl that went bananas on social.

The Supreme Court seems to think so. Hate speech is free speech, as bad as it is. It has to cross a line into calling for violence, basically. There's a line between "I wish these people were all dead" and "Let's go get this people and make them dead." Both abhorrent, one non-protected speech. Schools can't limit things because we don't like what they're saying. The targeting of schools as if they have a choice in the matter is silly. I wish nothing but the worst for anyone doing any of the speech mentioned there, but unless it runs afoul of the law...it's protected speech.
Now do Maxine Waters' greatest hits.

After googling her name and skimming four or five stories, it sounds like she waived her rights.

There are some stories where her mom basically said she got what she deserved and some indications she may have pulled her out of the school.

I'm gonna sit back and watch all the MAGA parents with special ed kids (autism and the like) learn that their funding for special services for their kids is going away. Gonna be a lot of "What? The Department of Ed is where that money came from"

Really? What widgets or services does the department of education sell to earn this money?
