I presume they have some people in an advisory capacity that understands it - I prefer to think they are ignoring reality for political reasons than simply having no one explaining to them the realities of the economy. I could be wrong and I've been wrong before.

Nothing frightens me more than government officials who are acting out of zealot-like beliefs rather than political opportunism. Bill Clinton is the best example of someone who adapted to political winds.
