So, to be fair to Trump, here's what I like from him so far:
1. CIA appointment of Pompeo
2. The whole 1,000 Carrier jobs thing, although I think this largely a pet project of Pence's that had been brewing for a while. Nonetheless, credit were credit is apparently due, at least for now.
3. Apparent consideration of General Mattis for Defense Secretary and Mitt Romney for Secretary of State. Both are more than legitimate considerations, and we should all be so lucky to see such prospective appointments confirmed.
4. A half-hearted message of conciliation. Which leads me to...
What I loathe about him thus far:
1...A half-hearted message of conciliation. After preying upon some of America's worst fears to get elected, he now only half-heartedly talks of conciliation. Meanwhile...
2. He appoints a morally reprehensible character, and most likely white supremacist, Steve Bannon, his Chief Strategist. God help us all. But, hey, moral relativism is cool now evidently, so who cares.
3. His confirmation of Goldman Sachs, despite his fellow Russia-traveler, Ed Snowden's, assurance that our choice was either for Donald Trump or Goldman Sachs.
4. His confirmation of all-things corporate thus far, not the least of which, billionaire Education Secretary pick, DeVos, is strong proof thus far that he indeed has the intention to "drain he swamp." "Drain the swamp," as I have always said, right into his and his supporters pockets. If the Republican Congress were to confirm such an appointment (and I think it will), it is proof to me that Republicans are committed to dumbing down our society and to ensuring that only those of money get education - in other words, those who are likely to vote Republican. The privatization of education is the dumbest thing this country could possibly imagine since the privatization of prisons. And the irony of it all is that those who yack hardest about "But the Republic! the Republic!" will be exactly the kind of moral cynics that will welcome this with open arms. The gag is over, just as it's now over for Evangelicals.
5. His outright persistence to still be a complete and utter ***** on Twitter.
6. His outright persistence to still call into doubt our institutions - and, therefore, our democracy.
7. The fact that nothing thus far has dispelled me of my conviction that he thinks he's Putin and that America can be ran like Russia, if only the right businessman is given a chance. See Trumps conflict of interests and weird tweets about giving over his business and entrusting it with his top-secret clearanced-wannabe children for reference.
On the fence:
Trump's consideration of Petraeus as Secretary of State is most likely a solid appointment, if made, but, again, I go back to Trump's relativism. He's considering appointing a man who was convicted of and disgraced by the same crimes of his opponent to the same position his opponent previously occupied under such circumstances.
I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but, get used to it. Postmodernism is apparently here to stay.
