President Trump's Cabinet?

Ralph Peters says everything that needed to be said about why Rex Tillerson should not be Secretary of State.

Interesting.

Trump could face Capitol Hill showdown with Rex Tillerson pick - CNNPolitics.com

Donald Trump won't get Rex Tillerson as secretary of state without a fight.

The President-elect is leaning towards entrusting the ExxonMobil tycoon with the stewardship of US diplomacy, a move that could ignite the first showdown between the pugilistic President-elect and senators in his own party.

The nomination -- which Trump sources say could come as soon as this week -- would be provocative, given Tillerson's personal relationship with President Vladimir Putin amid an uproar over CIA assessments that Russia likely intervened in the presidential election to help Trump.

Honestly, I think he should push the safe bet at this point of Romney. He's still (fairly) well respected by Congress and wouldn't be a hard sell.

I would love to see the apocalyptic rage sent forth by VolProf if Pence somehow became incapacitated and Cheney was nominated to take his place.

Meltdowns of all meltdowns.

I love how the most disastrous decision in American foreign policy history, which we'll be dealing with for at least another 50 years, has become a joke for "getting one up" on me on here.

Any proof to what you are saying? Trump has dealings in over 25 countries including Russia.....Tillerson has dealings with over 50 countries including russia.... he won an award from Russia for the mutually beneficial agreement he came up with to begin drilling for oil off the coast of Serbia......I just read two interesting articles on Huffington... one they claimed they didn't like Bolton partially bc of his negativity towards Russia....the next article they didn't like tillerson bc he is in "bed" with Russia.. personally I love most of trumps choices so far....I want a strong military to where we are feared by other countries and I love that he brought in men that have been highly successful that will be able to negotiate good deals in Americas best interests.

What do you mean what proof do I have? The first three points are all true; the last point I admitted "maybe."

Serbia doesn't have a coast, by the way.

I didn't realize Cheney was involved with the Iran agreement.

The establishment is clearly going to stonewall everything he does. If they can't stonewall his path to the White House first.

I think he (Trump) needs to be careful as to not go against the grain on all his selections. I honestly don't know that much about Tillerson so I can't say whether he'd be a good or bad choice.

However, tossing the "establishment" a bone might be helpful in getting some of his non-traditional picks through far easier. Art of the deal kinda stuff.

The Iran agreement is no one's idea of a successful contract.

That being side, the decision to remove Saddam from power was the single greatest step in enabling Iran in the Middle East. We took the one natural bulwark against them, one that would keep them somewhat grounded at home so as to defend against Saddam, and removed it. As a result, Iran has now become an expeditionary force in the Middle East.

Last I looked, those are the same people that vote for the Senate and keep said Senators in the job of approving Cabinet positions. If they don't like the selections, they are free to vote them out in 2018 and 2020.

There will come a time when Trump will need favors from the Senate and Congress as a whole. And putting someone like Romney into the SecState position can go a long way in smoothing the waters as well as a favor owed in the future. It also has the added advantage of pulling Romney out of position to directly challenge Trump.

I actually agree with you on this. They should have turned Hussein loose. He was the only thing that stabilized the tribal animals that live there.

Apparently Trump is going to pick Perry to run the Dept. of Energy. That's the third department Perry wanted to get rid of, but famously could not remember in the primaries a cycle back.

There is a trend here with Trump continually nominating people who have publicly announced hatred for or intent to dismantle the very department to which they are appointed to run.

Picking Perry to run DoEnergy is going to give SNL just too much to work with. I can see it now, Perry character wandering around asking people where his office is, but he can't remember the name of it.

Maybe putting people in charge of departments that they want to get rid of will result in their shrinking at least or ideally being shuttered.

....and your rocket surgeons picked Pelosi to again run the house minority. Keep doing the same thing expecting different results. Seems like someone has moved on from the primaries/campaign. And somebody.... hasn't.

Wasn't one of the major players of the SNL satire going to move to Canada when Bush got elected? How about now? No, he's still here where the stupid liberals pay to see him.

SNL hasn't been funny for 30 years.

Ralph Peters is one the more astute military/foreign policy analysts that this country has. Dude has been on point for nearly two decades.

He voted for Hillary so no he hasn't been on point. He acted like a total clown the past year. Him, Romney and Evan Mcstuffins are going to have a blast sitting on the sidelines complaining
