President Trump's Cabinet?

Apparently Trump is going to pick Perry to run the Dept. of Energy. That's the third department Perry wanted to get rid of, but famously could not remember in the primaries a cycle back.

There is a trend here with Trump continually nominating people who have publicly announced hatred for or intent to dismantle the very department to which they are appointed to run.

Picking Perry to run DoEnergy is going to give SNL just too much to work with. I can see it now, Perry character wandering around asking people where his office is, but he can't remember the name of it.

Maybe putting people in charge of departments that they want to get rid of will result in their shrinking at least or ideally being shuttered.

Yes, because NOW politicians will be looking for ways to reduce their power and influence.

One cannot spin away or deny the irony of Perry accepting the top job at a department he vowed to eliminate.

If the guy had a shred of self respect he wouldn't take it.

You did kind of spark a thought in my mind completely unrelated to your inane ranting...

How in the world is Trump getting some of these people to come to government service? The CEO of Exxon-Mobil? Billionaire and millionaire investors? These are not people who should want or need a government job.

Interesting that he seems to be getting those in that have been effected or seen the effects of government oversight and overreach.

I wondered that too. My guess is they are playing the long game, I doubt they will be gunning to institute policy's that will be detrimental to their future success. Hard to blame them...

Tillerson is literally taking a 99 % pay cut to do it.

Whether I disagree with their politics or not, I'd like to think that all these folks are coming in and taking these jobs because they feel its the right thing to do and they are willing to sacrifice for their country. And of course it makes it easy when they are billionaires, or close to it.

Perry, however, I'm convinced just wants to be a D.C. player. Republican or Democrat, he's an example of just wanting to live in the glory of the power.

I think there are only a handful posting here who really want decreases (or dismantling) across every department.

I won't disagree on Perry. The Department of Energy is far more broad ranging than Perry (or maybe Trump prior to the election) realizes. You are talking not only energy, but nuclear weapons development and nuclear disposal and energy research. Among other things. It's going to be hard to get rid of the DoE based on the nuclear security aspect alone.

The others are more curious than people like Perry and Sessions. I'm like you that I would hope they have the nation's interests at heart rather than financial gain. To which they surely aren't going to gain being in those positions, at least not directly. (said it before someone else chimed in) But it certainly is a way of "draining the swamp" by bringing in complete outsiders that cannot be bribed with "campaign donations" by a special interest group.

All of that is true.

I said some months ago that I thought that Trump was going to hate this job because of the slowness of the bureaucracy to evaluate and respond. He can't just pick up the phone and say "build a wall," or "fire all these people who annoyed me this morning."

When he gets in there and sits down and wants to do something, it takes months and often times years for the path to be cleared. He is going to really hate that.

With a couple of exceptions, the people he is bringing in are going to suffer the same problem. "What do you mean I have to clear this with the Division of Administrative Hearings, the Department of Labor, the Secretaries of ....?"

Going to be very interesting to see how the bull in the china shop phenomenon develops.

I sincerely hope he, as well as his Cabinet choices, breaks down the bureaucratic walls and takes a flamethrower to the red tape of Washington.

No good reason for much of it.

Trump is considering Roger Ailes for Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy. It goes from bad to worse.

Trump is also considering John Bolton for under Secretary of State. Trump also apparently wants to take away independence from BB of Governors & turn Voice of America News into a RT News type PR channel.
