Apparently he must re-take the ACT, leaving his practice status in jeopardy.... - per Jimmy Hyams
A kid works his a$$ off to improve his test score on the ACT, and he is rewarded by having his score "flagged" even though the only indicator that their might be a problem is the fact that the kid improved his score "too much." The kid who worked his a$$ off is presumed guilty of cheating with no evidence whatsoever? This kind of stuff is what really ticks me off about the NCAA.
My daughter voluntarily took the ACT again. Score moved from 27 to 31. That was with about 4-6 hours of study per week plus a private tutor.
Someone taking a monumental jump is suspicious. But i can see a person pulling it off with lots of prep, tutoring, etc.
Sadly in today's cheating and instant gratification society, you always have to be wary of cheating.
We did a recent anonymous study of Nursing school students, and 90% of them said they had cheated at some point on a paper, test, or exam.
Cheating has been so bad on the Nclex, that kids are required to submit fingerprints and a palm vein scan for entrance to the exam, and for re admittance after any breaks.
We had a kid on my high school team who had a full ride scholarship to Michigan, he took his first ACT and scored a 12, he needed to score atleast a 17, so he gave someone his drivers license, and the other kid took the test for him and scored a 21. He was also flagged by the NCAA, and required to retest, and scored a 15, and was deemed ineligible and had to attend juco.
I've also seen kids flagged and score appropriately on the retest and everything was fine.
Point being, if it was him who really took the exam, a point fluctuation of 2-3 points either way is normal, so if it was him he should be fine retesting
Good grief. The ACT/SAT is not a very difficult exam. It's not like the MCAT or LSTAT. What is wrong with young people these days? Is it really that difficult to study, stay away from drugs/alcohol and have respect for women?
