Part of that was Vols didn’t like tackling hard runners like Entenne, Schaffer, etc. They also did it by scoring points. Iowa has a real difficult time doing that
I hope you are right, but I have the same concern as wmco. Our defense has to get off the field on third down. We won't be able to wear their big boys down if our offense only has the ball for 5 minutes a quarter.Tennessee's fast pace offense will be a big problem for Iowa, spread the field and make them run to the football, that will wear out the big boys. As another poster said, Iowa will have problems scoring points. They like to play smash mouth football and that's ok but taking lots of time to do that scores few points. Tennessee scoring in 2-3 minute drills will have a devastating effect on the Hawkeyes. I just think our athletes overall are just too fast for them. Have to limit turnovers though & protect the ball. I just don't see how this can be close.
Their defense isn’t as good as some think. Physical? The SEC is the definition of a physical league. Iowa isn’t gonna hit as hard as TAMU or UK IMO.Teams that beat Tennessee this year did it playing very physical football. That is the foundation of iowa football.
Vols better strap it on tight cause Iowa will hit you, run hard & tackle hard.
I don't even think you're necessarily wrong. You make strong points. Tennessee shows up when they want to and that's a downfall unfortunately. But I think we still have a great game and go all the way. Great perspective.Iowa will beat us in the trenches and out tough us I’m afraid. Remember we have had a hard time scoring points in some games. Florida only 16 and lost Mizzou only 7 and lost and Texas A&M only 20 and were lucky to win that one. It wouldn’t shock me at all if Iowa beats us straight up. Unfortunately we are what are at this point and that’s a soft and undisciplined team. And not to mention we have some opt outs and players lost to the portal.
That’s my biggest concern are we going to show up and care about this game? We had players opt out last year in the orange bowl like Hyatt and of course Hooker was lost for the year but we showed up to play and got the win over Clemson.I don't even think you're necessarily wrong. Our fanbase is all over the Board some say Bowl game don't mean anything throw Nico out there and trash your all year starter. Then ppl talk about Iowa like they are an OOC directional school that's just playing for the pay day. Then you actually look and their rated higher than us in the Top 25. I just hope the ppl discounting team like their trash don't get embarrassed. I think the game is important to give the team a good vibe going into Spring, a spring in their step, if you will . A win might help to secure some Spring Portals that will be looking to get with a program on the rise and I know Josh is looking to fill some key pieces for 2024.Teams that beat Tennessee this year did it playing very physical football. We need heathy linebackers to fill the gaps and stop the run. We have a shortage of those right now unfortunatelyPart of that was Vols didn’t like tackling hard runners like Entenne, Schaffer, etc.
I do think the speed on offense for Tennessee could be a problem for Iowa but Vols can’t let them line up in 2 TE sets with a FB & run it for 10 minute possessions
I think it will be closer than we'd like. We seem to have success mapping out first drives, so I could see us scoring on first possession and then get stuck in conservative mode w/ too many 3 and outs, w/ their D. But, yes, ultimately, think if we do not consistently get behind the sticks w/ pre snap penalties and do not turn the ball over and give them short fields, we'll win 10+ points.Tennessee's fast pace offense will be a big problem for Iowa, spread the field and make them run to the football, that will wear out the big boys. Yep. Iowa will be plum wore out by all those WR screens Milton is gonna throw.Tennessee's fast pace offense will be a big problem for Iowa, spread the field and make them run to the football, that will wear out the big boys.
