Primary concern about this bowl game.

Yep. Iowa will be plum wore out by all those WR screens Milton is gonna throw. ;)
I hope we're not running straight into their line 3 times in a row, because if we do chances are there's a 3 & out coming. Keeping them honest is one thing but I've seen too many times we didn't learn the lesson. It will also be interesting to see if they can keep up with squirrel.

By all accounts, their secondary is stout and can run. If we're playing the same dink/dunk offense we've seen most of this season, it's gonna be a tight, boring game. If Heupel is the offensive mind everyone seems to think, he'll have a plan that involves us doing things we just didn't do much of during the regular season....assuming Milton is playing. Regardless of the score, I'd hope Nico gets at least a full half of football and comes out healthy.

I think Milton plays at least 3 quarters, and depending on the score will determine how much time Nico gets. Hopefully we can get up big & Nico can get at least a quarter.

I think our chances in this game come down to one thing: how Joe and the receivers perform. We're going into this game with the same unknown factor as preceded last year's Orange Bowl. In that game, it turned out that the coaches had Joe ready to play and the receivers also had a good performance and we won big. If we get a similar performance against Iowa, I think we'll be fine. If not, it could be an ugly game and Iowa will have us right where they want us.

They also did it by scoring points. Iowa has a real difficult time doing that

If they can't score against our defense that has been depleted by players transferring - well they are the worst of the worst. I would not be surprised if all of a sudden, they become very proficient at scoring.

This is why we do not need to experiment with the offense IMO. Play the ones that got the wins because defense may be really bad.

This game is nothing more than a pre-2024 season exhibition. Every player the staff believes will be needed next season should see action.

My primary concern is departed/injured personnel and having to play a physical game. We saw what not having our center in our OL did to us against UF. Now, we'd probably beat UF by 3 scores.

IMO, this will be like the Missouri game if UT doesn’t get first downs, especially on 3rd down. Defense will get tired and frustrated in the second half. The outcome of this game is more dependent on Joe Milton than on any other player from either team.

This game is this and only this. If we want it and play we will win by 14+. We’re better in every single phase of the game.
Except defense, and I’m not sold that SEC offenses were that much better than Big 10 offenses this year.

Part of that was Vols didn’t like tackling hard runners like Entenne, Schaffer, etc.

I do think the speed on offense for Tennessee could be a problem for Iowa but Vols can’t let them line up in 2 TE sets with a FB & run it for 10 minute possessions
That's where the coaches should earn that check.

Tennessee's fast pace offense will be a big problem for Iowa, spread the field and make them run to the football, that will wear out the big boys. As another poster said, Iowa will have problems scoring points. They like to play smash mouth football and that's ok but taking lots of time to do that scores few points. Tennessee scoring in 2-3 minute drills will have a devastating effect on the Hawkeyes. I just think our athletes overall are just too fast for them. Have to limit turnovers though & protect the ball. I just don't see how this can be close.
What you are leaving out is while they are grinding it out our D stays on the field. We had a problem all year getting our D off the field. Then we score quick points and they are right back on the field. This is what happened in all of our losses.

Teams that beat Tennessee this year did it playing very physical football. That is the foundation of iowa football.

Vols better strap it on tight cause Iowa will hit you, run hard & tackle hard.
Iowa is by far the worst offense in Div 1 football. The Vols win if they score 14 points or more...

We’ve been saying that all season. I’m doubtful that we will see much of Nico. This will be a close game and CJH has been consistent with leaving Milton in until we have a very comfortable lead. I see us stacking to stop their run game and they will go after our third string secondary .

I think a lot of that was caused by attrition and exhaustion. Also Mizzou and Georgia had very capable passing games.

No concern about winning this game. Look at their schedule. Look at the amount of points they score. Look at our schedule and who we play. We win no problem. GBO! Merry Christmas and Happy Volidays!
Their schedule vs Tennessee?? Are You kidding? Iowa's schedule was probably more difficult. Our mighty Vols played Austin Peay, UTSA, and UCONN. Of course we played Alabama and Georgia, but who else did UT play that would scare other teams? Answer is:NO One

Iowa is B10 slow and not good. Not one concern about his game

You know, to me it’s funny how much less the emphasis on bowl games has become - I remember the 1985 Sugar bowl being a big damn deal. The 96 Citrus Bowl against Ohio State. The 2001 Citrus Bowl against Michigan.
1997 against the Big Red Thrashing Machine. Even the peach bowl against Clemson.

I guess I’m just older now - and don’t get me wrong - I am very happy we got such a great bowl slot as opposed to the MCB or etc - but this seems far less relevant or important than it used to.
