Primary concern about this bowl game.

You don't need to worry about this bowl game. We are going to beat Iowa badly. They have no offense at all. Their defense is good but will eventually wear out.

You know, to me it’s funny how much less the emphasis on bowl games has become - I remember the 1985 Sugar bowl being a big damn deal. The 96 Citrus Bowl against Ohio State. The 2001 Citrus Bowl against Michigan.
1997 against the Big Red Thrashing Machine. Even the peach bowl against Clemson.

I guess I’m just older now - and don’t get me wrong - I am very happy we got such a great bowl slot as opposed to the MCB or etc - but this seems far less relevant or important than it used to.
People predicted a playoff would kill the bowls and it is. That & SEC dominance of the CFP is why they’re going to 12. They should go to 16 & be done with it.

Teams that beat Tennessee this year did it playing very physical football. That is the foundation of iowa football.

Vols better strap it on tight cause Iowa will hit you, run hard & tackle hard.
I believe our offense is physical, it's our secondary that was the weak link...jmo

Our defense has to get off the field on third down.

Actually, our defense does not have to get off the field on third down. That is the big concern. It might not. The other big concern is putting points on the board. Iowa has a stout defense. To score, our players must move the chains and cross the goal line. If they turn the ball over with INTs, fumbles, and three-and-outs, then they'll need to go on hot streaks to win. We all know what watching that kind of game is like. I'm hoping they can consistently hold the ball and steadily advance it. That is that game I want us to play.

First team to 20 points should win this game.

Iowa has a good defense....against the Big 10.

They will have trouble adapting to the tempo of the Vols offense IF it can stay in positive down and distance and complete passes.

Vols defense will come down to how much they want to be there and whether they are willing to stick their noses in and make tackles. If they aren't, their RB probably has a career day like Etienne, McLellan, and Schrader.

Our defense has to stop the run and force the quarterback to make quick throws and don’t give him time to set feet and feel comfortable throwing. They aren’t a high powered passing team by no means, there is no reason to play soft zones. We have to play aggressive up front and tackle well. Stop the run and get them in down and distance and stay aggressive. GBO

Iowa will beat us in the trenches and out tough us I’m afraid. Remember we have had a hard time scoring points in some games. Florida only 16 and lost Mizzou only 7 and lost and Texas A&M only 20 and were lucky to win that one. It wouldn’t shock me at all if Iowa beats us straight up. Unfortunately we are what are at this point and that’s a soft and undisciplined team. And not to mention we have some opt outs and players lost to the portal.
And you're a soft fan. We win easily.

Their schedule vs Tennessee?? Are You kidding? Iowa's schedule was probably more difficult. Our mighty Vols played Austin Peay, UTSA, and UCONN. Of course we played Alabama and Georgia, but who else did UT play that would scare other teams? Answer is:NO One
Are you high? In what world is a big ten schedule harder than a sec schedule? Iowa played exactly TWO ranked teams all year and got destroyed.

I look for us to score about 17 points, just hope we can win with that.

If you play in the SEC every game is physical!

My main concern is will Orange County clear out the homeless people around the stadium before I get there?

The biggest issue is we'll be young at DB due to transfers. Consequently, I think Iowa may score their first point against a team that went better than 7-5 this season, but maybe I'm getting carried away.

I see what you are saying but we all asked for this. Remember when there were 4 or 5 teams claiming National Championships some years and the year, they gave Natty to BYU and their schedule strength was terrible, but they were undefeated and played a terrible opponent in the Holiday Bowl. Ppl were saying we need a playoff but the rich guys that were controlling the Bowl games didn't want to lose their power, but they finally succumbed. Next year will be a lot better 12 teams, top 4 get a bye, 4 Bowl game week 1. The winners will play top seed in next to make 8 bowl games then the semi winners play 2 more bowl games to reach the Final Natty Bowl. So that will be 11 game that actually will have no opt outs. I may be wrong how the playoff works next year, that's just off top my head. The extra 11 games 'I'm not sure each will be sponsored by a different Corporate Bowl or what but follow the money.

What you are leaving out is while they are grinding it out our D stays on the field. We had a problem all year getting our D off the field. Then we score quick points and they are right back on the field. This is what happened in all of our losses.
I agree we have to get off the field on 3rd down.

Is anyone else hearing that Nico is starting?

Who in the hell told you that ?

Even if he were starting no one would know about it. Not even Nico at this point. Unless, of course, Joe has sprained his whole body - and with over a week to go, I still wouldn’t count him out.
