I really enjoyed it. And like others have asid, I got a lot more questions now.

SPOILERS BELOW*****************

Like the beginning sequence....was that supposed to be how they created life on Earth? And what's the black liquid stuff that mutates?

Finally saw it last night and enjoyed it.

SPOILER

In the first Alien, when they landed on the planet with the homing beacon, the pilot was in his chair with his chest exploded. However in this movie, he was not in the chair, but in Charlize Theron's ship when he bought it. Is this some incongruity?

the ship in the first Alien movie is on a completely different planet

that's why I said before that this movie creates more questions than it answers

I'm guessing it's supposed the be in the same universe type story. You know how some sci-fi authors will write different stories in the same universe? Something like that.

My take is that, he wasn't the only "Engineer" to try to leave the planet. Just one of at least two. For me, this just tells some of the the story of "The Space Jockeys" that were found in the original Alien.

I'd have to double check the dates, but if they worked out, for all we know the engineer Ripley discovered in the original Alien could have been one of the hologram Engineers that were running away from something in Prometheus.

Yes to your first question. Not sure on the black stuff. My take is this: the dude at the beginning was an outcast for some reason and sentenced to die on earth, that is why whatever species they are hate humans. Humans came from the outcast of their species. The black stuff, probably supposed to cause a painful death, but by accident they created an organic substance. Might be off-base but that's how I put it together.

But why wait till only a couple thousands years ago to decide to destroy humankind? They'd visited numerous times.

One thing I did read through for the fun of it is some diff websites explanations. One I found interesting was that Jesus Christ was really an emissary from the Engineers and that's what angered them. 2000 years ago is when all the crap started. I can't remember them all but there were several religious marks in the movie. I never saw it, but according to one article Ridley Scott said that was the path he wanted to take, but decided to remove some of the scenes to make it less obvious.
