Thousands Rally for Citizenship

LOS ANGELES (AP) - May 1, 2007 - Angry over recent raids and frustrated with Congress, thousands of people protested across the country Tuesday to demand a path to citizenship for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

"illegal" is the keyword...

What am I missing here? Illegals don't deserve special treatment.

As I've said before, they only come here because good flag-waving patriotic Americans are breaking laws by hiring them. Tell those law abiding Americans to stop hiring them and cheating the rest of us and they go home from lack of work. Americans who break American laws shouldn't get special treatment which translates to AMNESTY either should they? I mean they break the law as well right?

The only people that have a dog in this fight are Native Americans.

not really, since it's been proven that "native americans" migrated from Asia across a land bridge.

and while my family did immigrate here, they came here with the purpose of becoming Americans, not turning America into another version of the country they left behind. That can't be said for a majority of the illegal Mexicans here now. Quite the contrary, for most of them their stated goal is reconquista. It's also hypocritical of the criminal aliens to demand full integration when the Mexican government's treatment of illegal immigrants is quite harsh.

Strange how it is only the Mexicans who are the evil conquerors. Strange how all of the other illegals are not mentioned. Most of them have stated their goals? Are we polling them now? And not turning them in? Most of them that come here actually stay about 6 months and then return home. They are migrant. Not sure how migrants have a stated goal of reconquista when they are not around long enough.

You mean people that came to this country for a better life shouldn't be allowed in? Why? How do you think your family got here? The only people that have a dog in this fight are Native Americans.

Well you could rob a bank to have a better life, but that would be illegal now wouldn't it??

Rob a bank versus cross an imaginary line....hmmm. Take someone else's money or cross that imaginary line....

And again, how does crossing an imaginary line compare to stealing other people's money and threatening their lives?

They are collecting money ILLEGALLY from our government right?? That to me is stealing and one of the reasons our Social Security will collapse in the next 7-10 years.

BTW, if you own a house would you let someone you didn't know from another country who is here illegally camp next to your house on YOUR property??

Americans are collecting illegally as well. Americans are hiring these illegals and thus more will come. Why not gripe about those Americans who are the ones breaking American laws? Everyone wants to say this is all Mexican illegals and fail to look at the whole picture. If you are all about cracking down on illegal activity, go punish the Americans who are calling these illegals to come here and work for cheap. Your neighbors are the ones hiring them and cheating you out of Social Security, taxes, etc. Illegals will come as long as Americans call on them to come.

If this were truly about the rule of law, everyone speaking on this issue would challenge Americans and American businesses to stop hiring these and stop facilitating this whole migration. But instead we are only focused on those we can easily take cheap shots at. So what is it? Rule of law or some latent bigoted attitude towards others?

the "natives" got here first, it's the "finders = keepers" rule. you don't see them trying to kick us out, so I don't see why we have to try to kick them (the "illegals") out.

you second paragraph is a little more in depth.

Your family may very well have come here to become Americans, that's fine, I won't argue that they didn't. The problem is, they brought their culture with them, much the way that "illegals" do now. The USA is the most culturally diverse country on the planet for a reason, because we allow different cultures in. They are not "trying to change" anything, most of them are working to send money back to their families. More power, it keeps goods and labor prices low.

Also, unless the Mexican government officials themselves are those that are calling for full integration, it is not hypocritical. It would only be hypocritical of the criminal aliens, as you so eloquently put it, to demand full integration if they were treating immigrants in Mexico poorly themselves.

This is such a flawed argument, the "illegals" aren't camping on people's property, they are paying rent with the money they earn from jobs that most of them also pay taxes on.

And think twice before you tell me how much more they take in than dish out in tax money, or I will link you back to the last time I proved you wrong.

Really, try presenting actual arguments, instead of flawed and unlikely scenarios.

How many times do I have to state the fact that most all undocumented workers pay into FICA and Social Security, yet none of them draw Social Security or receive "tax refunds."

Your statement is about as baseless as they come. If anything, the millions of undocumented workers are actually a crutch for our crumbling social security (which needs to completely fall apart, as it is a concept that has no place in a capitalist society.)

I am not going to argue anything here, I am simply going to call "BS."

Aren't they stealing our $ by being here illegally?
Not at all. If a private business owner wants to pay someone to perform a task, why should the government dictate who is allowed to perform such task?

These "undocumented workers" are actually doing the exact opposite of "stealing our money." They are putting and keeping more money in our own pockets. Because of the risks they have assumed, we spend less money as consumers for more goods.

Yes, a fraction of them take advantage of certain government services. However, unlike the Americans who exploit these resources, the "undocumented workers" actually pay in to the system.

If any Americans have a bone to pick about government subsidized medical care or "free education", take that fight to the millions of Americans living on welfare who sit on their rear ends all day, producing absolutely nothing. Do not take it to people who are working well over 50 hours per week, paying taxes in to the system, and producing a handful of consumer goods we buy frequently.

I agree with that!

I am not going to argue anything here, I am simply going to call "BS."

so it's BS that my ancestors came here with the purpose of becoming Americans and not establishing small pieces of Italy and Czechoslovakia in greater Cleveland, OH? thanks for your insight into my family history.
