Just going to be a small hourly wage increase for workers. Companies are not going to hire extra employees to make up this 8 hour time as employment costs are not worth it. They will just require the same employees work overtime as per fed law.
Think of manufacturing or production lines...the pace always stays the same and equipment will not be ramped up by 25% to achieve the same product output.
Yep. They have production companies in Cal?

seems if it was guaranteed to improve productivity and other positive outcomes most companies would already be doing it. sure some wouldn't be forward-thinking enough to make the change but the realities of competition and hiring issues should have already pushed companies here if those gains were so likely.

Since I don't live in California, they obviously don't have the same staffing issues as TN where we have jobs unfilled and need people to work more hours. Of course with a 32 hr max week, I could work 2 full time jobs....wonder if Uncle SAM would consider giving anyone with 2 or more jobs a tax break.

Proposed bill would shorten California workweek to 32 hours. Here's what you need to know
The bill as written would apply to employers in California with at least 500 employees. According to the state's Employment Development Department, that's about 2,600 businesses and more than 3.6 million employees.
I can foresee a lot of companies downsizing to less than 500 employees.

The standard 40-hr workweek is really arbitrary and kinda dumb but government mandate isn't the answer to fixing it.

Face it, between bathroom breaks, getting coffee, personal texts/calls, surfing the internet, social media, general chitchat and ext. 32 productive hours is about what employers are getting.

I doubt it's that much.

During Covid... we went to split shifts. That being 3 days on, 4 off, then 4 on and and 3 off. We discovered that we could prioritize key projects better, and rather than one person managing a project, we would hand it off to the incoming engineer. We discovered that we could meet all our goals and timelines and having a few more days away was a great benefit to moral. So... I am not convinced a 5 day, 50-60 hour work week is the way to go!

I think that’s how my local kfc operates. 3 days open and 4 days closed and everything in between.

I’ve always thought overtime should be tax free.

The KFC in my town was out of Original Recipe and Crispy chicken the other night. Basically, telling me they were out of fried chicken.

“It’s just so hard for the little guy to get ahead because of all these greedy rich people”-the left

Also the left-“we should work about 30 hours a week”

Can anyone name a profession that actually works part time and is universally considered wealthy? I couldn’t imagine any business owner, attorney, doctor, CEO, famous musician, podcaster, etc working part time and being on the upper end of the income distribution.

If you want to close these gaps, perhaps we should be encouraging work ethic and doing more than the minimum.

I love when they compare a CEO pay to a minimum wage worker and do so by assuming a 40 hour work week for both. I can’t help but laugh every time

The answer to fixing it is to eliminate overtime laws so people who need the hours aren’t forced into lower paying jobs.

While in high school I worked with multiple adults in fast food who had 40 hour a week jobs through the day but had to moonlight in fast food, making far less

We had a KFC in Norfolk , close to the house , shut down , I was telling nurse I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before . I mean I know they have , I just ever remember one shutting its doors . It was during the Covid lock down .

California is a disease that’s spreading …. The influx of escapees into TN has already f’ed up the housing market. There is no such thing as affordable housing in the greater Nashville area now.
I think that's not a "Californians fleeing California" issue, it's a "Tennessee is gaining businesses that are hiring" issue... and the Californians that are driving prices up in Tennessee are buying up property in Tennessee as investment property, they aren't moving here.

Why is TN having such success in gaining business and subsequent needed employees?
