Say what you will about Johnny, and sometimes fans step on his legacy, but I think he deserves better.

I'm not going to get into great detail about his career numbers, but here is one fact that I believe is telling.

There are only two coaches going back to the end of the Neyland era who left the program in better shape than it was when they took it over, and those two are Doug Dickey and Johnny Majors.

From this Vol fan, I say, thank you coach for all you did.

I like Johnny, but he needs to learn to let the whole Fulmer thing go. Being bitter about what happened has got to be a miserable way to go through life.

I always liked Johnny. He brought some great memories to TN football as a player and coach. It is a shame his coaching career at TN ended the way it did.

Johnny believes that he built the program to the state that it was in in 1992. He also believes that he would have led us to a National Championship, rather than Phil.

That would mean that Johnny had two National Championships at two different universities and he was the hero to Tennessee fans.

How would you like it if you worked tirelessly for 15 1/2 years and you finally got it back in good standing, then someone else gets credit for the momentum that you built that led to a National Championship?

Better yet, that person was your close confidant and your star pupil.

Not disagreeing with you Rudy. I would be pissed too if Fulmer got credit for something that I built. I'm just saying that it's been 22 years and he still holds a grudge. Time to let go. I wouldn't want to be bitter about something for that long, but that's just me.

I have a lot of respect for JM. But at that point in his coaching career he was never going to win another national championship. He was fighting some other deamons that affected his thinking and consumed his time. My guess is that if the change had not taken place we would have seen some of the better assistants move on eventually.

If Phil had won the NC in 93-95 Johnny's grudge might hold a little more water. Phil was a good coach in his own right. They both are VFL's and should be highly regarded by this fan base, IMO.

In my book, Johnny is a legend. I greatly appreciate all he did for our program, both as a player and a coach. Truly a #VFL, IMO.
