I believe that they made up and if you don't think Johnny loves the Vols, you just need to look at how many times he is at UT. All the time. Great person and great Vol!!!!

Go Vols!!

I like Johnny, but he needs to learn to let the whole Fulmer thing go. Being bitter about what happened has got to be a miserable way to go through life.

Bitterness drieth the bones. Release them all Johnny.

Classic photo right there. I sell houndstooth crap in Bama like crazy with my biz. I use this photo on the display and also have a little sticker labeled "The Red Team" above the Bammer stuff. Parole Tide, LOL!

Ironically, CPBB is not wearing a "houndstooth" hat and rarely is in most photos.

VFL. He did a lot for UT on the field and sidelines. We sucked bad when he took over. I think Bill Battle was working for Bama then too. Huge win knocking them off after 12 years of torment, then went on a 4 or 5 game run.

What's strange is how times have changed. Nobody, would be given that long to turn it around nowadays.

I'll never forget him trying to figure out if the FG was good or not at the end of the Miracle in South Bend. My wife and I sat there in unbelief after that!

JM is an icon @ TN.

If you were NOT lucky enough to have seen the Johnny Majors Show after the '79 ND win you missed a classic VOL moment. Johnny had some Johnny W and was pounding the table w/ an Irish shillelagh while John Ward chuckled and highlights were shown. Classic Johnny simply classic. I wish they would package and sell that game and his show.

I agree. I think Johnny has let a lot of the anger go toward everything and everybody except Fullmer. I don't know what happened there but I've never thought Fulmer would've or could've done to Majors what Majors thinks he did.

Johnny deserves alot of credit for how well the program was! Saying that I'm a johnny fan but in saying that I was glad he was gone just as I was when CPF was finally ran out. Now, If it were today, Majors would have never had the opportunity to build it back because of the time it took. As for the bitterness he still feels, he does have a right but like the other poster said it's way past time to let that go. I do have to commend CPF for never responding back at him.

Ncvol, that show still rates as my all time favorite, absolutely priceless. :peace2:

Always seemed to me that Majors was looking to hang his problems on someone else. He was let go for a reason. It was all on him.

lET'S FACE FACTS. Phillip Fulmer placed a knife in Johnny Majors back and twisted it several times while Johnny was sick. No doubt !!! If I was Johnny Majors I would probably go to jail for assault. However, Johnny is probably handling it the best way he can. This is strictly my opinion and I respect yours if it differs.

Say what you will about Johnny, and sometimes fans step on his legacy, but I think he deserves better.

I'm not going to get into great detail about his career numbers, but here is one fact that I believe is telling.

There are only two coaches going back to the end of the Neyland era who left the program in better shape than it was when they took it over, and those two are Doug Dickey and Johnny Majors.

From this Vol fan, I say, thank you coach for all you did.

CBJ will be the third. All had/have a big job to do, but I think Jones will get us back the quickest.

A lot of older folks feel this way . I know my parents do , but they went to school with Johnny . They never really warmed up to Fulmer , but they still love them some Johnny.

I have a lot of respect for JM. But at that point in his coaching career he was never going to win another national championship. He was fighting some other deamons that affected his thinking and consumed his time. My guess is that if the change had not taken place we would have seen some of the better assistants move on eventually.

THIS. As a student, we looked up to Johnny and I respect what he did for the program. But as someone who had a lot of friends in the "phi kappa football" fraternity and dated someone who was also dating Johnny's son (dont ask) - I was aware that Johnny had some personal issues. From what I heard, there were very few days when 4pm didn't find him hitting the bottle already.

I have a lot of respect for what he did for UT but I think his addictions and personal problems got the better of him at that time and may have made it very difficult for people to work with. Interestingly, it may be that same mentality (that of an alcoholic) that makes it easy to blame others (Fulmer) for what happened to him and difficult for him to accept responsibility for his mistakes.

All of these guys are people. And as such, they can have times of professional greatness even when they may be experiencing personal failure or tragedy. Thats why I respect both Johnny and Fulmer for the achievements they made while realizing that they werent perfect.

What demons ? I know what you are referring to but they do not exist . John could not have returned to Pitt with all those demons you refer to. Ben Byrd cleared all the demon stuff up with a great article in the KJ years ago.
