Proud of the way Nico played

If you’re happy with that showing then more power to you. I guess I expect more.
Kind of a dumb statement and a catch all. Why to prove a point I guess? Nobody in their right mind would be remotely happy with that showing. To question that to prove a point is just dumb.
What is the point of the question?

It's not a matter of being happy with it, it's about not taking the result of a college football game as a personal affront, like so many of you seem to do. They lost a game to a better team - okay, so they need to learn from it, move on and get better. As for me, it doesn't affect my life one iota like it seems to do to you. And using the "effort of the fans" to bash players whose amount of effort you have no clue about is off the charts asinine.

Facts vs Assumption vs Truth. We may never know the real story.
Best we can do is learn from it and move on.
Disappointed? Yes Expected a better showing and competitive game? yes.
Wake up call? We are not there yet and we have not completed the full cycle.
Id the problem and fix it or move on.
Unless we are in the locker room or coaches room we can't id the problem.

Wake up call ? Hogs ? Dawgs ? To ID the problem you need to be receptive to change. You’re right about one thing I am not in the locker room seeing the full scope of the intangibles. Have a Merry Christmas!

Hard to complete passes when you're running for your life. Receivers need to abandon their route and try to get open when the QB is under duress. One particular play I remember, Nico was again under pressure and Bishop found an open spot and made himself available. Nico threw a perfect pass, but Bishop got blasted from behind and couldn't hold on to the ball. QB has to have an open receiver to throw to when the defense is chasing him.
I remember that “perfect pass” and it was actually a bad pass 4 yards Nico threw four yards. Nico is not the only problem, but he hasn’t been good this year. He’s Milton or Guarantano. Tremendous waste of money.

Right now Hogs and Dawgs and Ohio State with weeks off before the game one could say Paralysis of Analysis, but it would be an assumption. A week or more of preparation does us no good. I am willing to admit that that statement is an Assumption and not a fact.

Ohio State's loss to Michigan identified a lot of issues to fix and our win over Vandy secured us a playoff spot. It appears that we either didn't address any issues or paralysis of analysis.

Nobody is talking about Alabama's lost to OK or Mississippi's loss to to FL but we will hear about this beatdown/defeat if OSU makes a run to the NC game.

We all as TN Fans thought we would have a close competitive game which did not happen. We were out schemed and outplayed on both sides of the ball great preparation. Even at full strength we get beat. We were not prepared or over prepared with the wrong schemes.

IYO, you can't say that until after the fact. Let's see how long he stays here and what he does with the next 3 years. You may eat those words, you may not.

The people calling Nico the next Guarantano or Milton are out of their minds. Has he looked good? No, but there are flashes. These young QBs (with good coaches) grow up fast. Next season Nico could be a heisman winner for all we know. Get him a good supporting cast and he's probably going to look like Mahomes out there. There's a reason when these other teams QB1 gets injured and we start thinking the QB2 is going to look like a heisman winner. Their QBs are surrounded by guys that can play the game at a high level no matter who is back there.

Verdict is still out. Arch Manning isn't lighting it up either. There are some QBs that start out elite right away but that is very rare. Most QBs don't come along until later on. Who heard of Johnny Manziel or Cam Newtwo until their junior years for example?
Manning came in for one play yesterday and fumbled 🤦

I watched him for a whole year, and he could barely crack 200 yards. He’s not good.
I would rather take a wait and see approach. A RS freshman is only as good as the team will allow him to be. A RS freshman is only as good as a coaching staff will program him to be. This is a coach that started Milton over HH until an injury. CJH knows what it takes to run his offense and the pieces it takes to get them to that point. Can he repeat it or not. We over achieved this season most looked at this season as an 8-4 or 9-3 rebuild job. Exceeded expectations. We did not show up.

Can't push all this off on one player as you have done so. Team Game must have Team Effort. You can blame one player but the Team did not show up. Reasons unknown to the fans but internally identified. How many times have you seen Tennessee allow 10 to 15 yard down and out completions continuously during the game and not adjust to stop it. I have never witnessed that.
What's more, we have never been without a dominant receiver on our roster. Ever. We had no go to guy this year. Some of this is on the QB, some on the WR, some of it on the OL and some of it on Coaching. Complete failure regardless. The defense got worse and worse as the season progressed. Not sure what tapes they were looking at or if they were even watching the game. Our defense looked dazed and confused.

You let a team put 21 first half points on you and it deflates you quickly. Most important drive of the second half was a failed response. OSU did what they did and closed the door with their drive.

Dude we’ve seen redshirt freshmen win Heismans and championships. Our redshirt freshman can barely crack 100 yards against anyone with a pulse.

Also I have witnessed Willie Martinez-coached Tennessee teams get gashed through the air over and over again many times.

you have seen one or two RS Freshman win the Heisman and one or two win championship. Start looking at the facts vs pulling a statement out of you backside. Tell me how many RS Freshman or Freshman have won a SEC championship let alone a national Championship.

That debacle was not due to Martinez solely it was due to depth, talent and we were out schemed and could not stop it. So look at the facts not the eye wash a lot of people need to be held accountable.

Hurts, Tua, Jameis, Manziel, JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, Trevor Lawrence are just a few that come to mind in recent memory who were way better as true or redshirt freshmen than Nico. That’s not counting many true sophomores who would be true freshmen if the 4 game rule had been around earlier. Tennessee alone has had several better frshman quarterbacks, like Peyton, Clausen, Ainge, Bray.

Martinez sucks and has for all 8 seasons he has coached here. Games like last night happen repeatedly with him. This year he was fortunate to face a lot of bad QBs

The change to the 4 game rule was 2018 and most would not have true freshman in at starting QB anyways.

Your statement was won the Heisman and National Championships. I went further and asked name a Freshman or RS Freshman that has won an SEC Championship.
Jameis Winston won the NC. Lawrence won one as well. Tua got to the SEC championship but only after Hurts played a majority of the season. Manziel won the Heisman but posted an 11-2 record. Trevor Lawrence is a great QB. Why? Supporting cast and the players around him.

I am not sure enough people recognize how good HH was at processing the defense and delivering the ball. He had 6 years of experience to boot and a talented group of WRs. I think we are expecting every QB to have this type of success at UT and HH was an exception to rule.

Can we replicate this in the future --- 6 years experience, Processing speed, and WR group with OL play maybe but not probable. NICO will be good but it will take time and depends on how the coaching staff contributes to his success and development. Too early to make the call. Arm talent is one thing but experience, coaching and processing speed is the other. Questions will be if they can put a line together that does not get blown up every play.

As for the others different way of doing business back then and a different way of life in the NCAA. But 2 total and to date no freshman has ever won a SEC championship that started at the first and finished the season.

Last night we were out schemed. I don't disagree with you so much on Martinez. We have been soft in the middle all year. The way to control our DL is to get the ball out of your hands quickly and OSU did just that with no answers from Tennessee...

Nico played well for a first year starter but he did not have a good second half of the season passing the ball regardless of his experience level. Part of that is poor offensive line play and part of that is poor decision making on his part
Add in everything. Wr's have dropped more than a few and can't get open against good teams

All of those guys you listed had better players around them than Nico my guy. Sampson is very good. He is about the only one on this offense who might have played for any of the teams you mention with any of those guys. Lets be fair Nico has had some ups and downs but he certainly has the ability. He needs better weapons at wr and an OL who can pass block.

Nico held on to the ball way too long early in the game.
He didn’t process and see the field quickly enough.
O line held up good enough early on, Nico just took for ever.
When we got behind, OSU pinned their ears back and our O line crumbled.
You better be tough and be able to scramble with this combination.
He has the physical tangibles but slow processing against better defenses.

Nico needs competition in the QB room.
I disagree that it should be a given that this is Nico’s team.
I do think it is QB driven offense/team as most teams are whoever that starting QB may be.

His WR's were rarely open and yes he missed a couple. Routinely had pressure in his face and on the edges. WR's get very little early seperation. OSU is a very good and talented football team. OUR WR were complete no shows last night.
