Proud of this team

We can discuss Xs and Os basketball any time you like
Okay, this isn’t Xs and Os, but more tactics.

What sense does it make to draw up a play for a 31% 3 point shooter who is 0-5 on the day to take a 3 with 9 seconds left when you are down 2, especially if that guy has zero track record of hitting shots in moments like that? If it were John Calipari drawing that up for DJ Wagner, what would your reaction be?

Give a genuine answer, not a “well you think you’re so smart, why ain’t you the coach?” sort of answer or a “I will never second guess my team because it makes me uncomfortable to acknowledge flaws in them” sort of an answer.

Because he could get an open look? Also, part of the play was crashing the boards with all of Auburn's players out on the perimeter

You don’t have to take a 3 at all. And the history of basketball is littered with guys who teams try to refuse the ball in late game situations. Somehow they usually still get the ball.
Agree but I think Barnes was just going for the win this time instead of OT. Auburn probably wins in OT with Gainey out

Part of every late play is crashing the boards, guy. Has it occurred to you that you can get an open look with Zakai there for a reason? I promise you Pearl was happy to see the way that play played out every step of the way.

I think this will be a good/successful season and people will say the team played hard, because they will have. However, the flaws are pretty glaring and I don’t think the effort can/will overcome the lack of dynamic shot creators in big games. I hope the plan for next year is not to go get more journeymen from the portal. I liked it better when recruiting high school players was the mainstay. Maybe the transfer rules and NIL killed that, but Duke, Kansas, and other blue bloods seem to be able to make it work. Thoughts?

Bruce got outcoached last night. Some people just can’t admit it.

I still like Bruce, but anyone suggesting he’s better than Hurley?..well, I won’t say it.
Bruce is one of the best motivators you can see that when he gets his players amped up on in bound plays and IMO that's a lot of it. I don't think he's one of the geniuses Xs & Os guys. He doesn't care to take chances and is a person I believe goes by "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying". More of a guy that would be cast as a made by the Mafia type where Barnes is more of a deacon type.

Don’t think so……….sometimes you go with your gut feelings and not analytics………Don’t believe for a second Pearl left him open for a reason……….. don’t have any problem with ZZ taking that shot in that situation………he was the best player on the floor for us against Auburn………..he took the shot, didn’t go down, move on to prepare for Kentucky. If we go to overtime, we are not getting a decent whistle in that arena and with that crowd. I like the strategy.
