Pruitt Should Apologize to Fans, the Team & Re-evaluate if He Still Wants to Be Coach

Gave you a like for once again expressing a childlike understanding of what life is truly about.

What a dumb reply.

" I can't comprehend or don't like your answer, so I assert you don't understand what is important in life."

If you can't handle an adult conversation, then bow out.

No one pays a guy millions of dollars to do a CEO level job and then says, keep helping our biggest competitor.

It was thrown out it was ok because it would pay dividends for us. It didn't. So it was dumb.

Same. Disappointed here. But some people would still be supporting Dooley and Butch, saying, “give them more time” and “next year will be better” year after year if there weren’t others to say THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

I’m merely pointing out that since the class didn’t turn out as hyped, Pruitt failed in my eyes simply because he didn’t do everything he could for Tennessee. No matter what excuse you make for him, having a sub par class and knowing he was at Alabama for 3+ weeks after agreeing to the job here does not and will not ever look good.

No, that’s not what you’re “merely pointing out”. No backtracking now pal. The title of your thread goes so far as to say that Pruitt needs to re-evaluate whether or not he wants to be Tennessee’s head coach.....that’s not only going well beyond falling short of expectations for the 2018 class, it’s utterly absurd.

Make an adult conversation and we will have one. But looking back over what you have said and I have asked you have deflected every time in a child like fashion. Step up to the plate and make an argument we can discuss.

Georgia paid a guy millions of dollars to do a CEO level job and then said keep helping our competitor. They seemed to survive it.

Nobody thought it was 'ok' because it would pay dividends for us. People knew we'd get some airtime from it. If anyone thought that was going to translate into an instant No. 1 recruiting class, that's on them.

Recruiting is about relationships. For the time he had and the dumpster fire he walked into, CJP and staff did an awesome job. Yes, we missed on several yesterday, but UT was not on their list two months ago and he brought elite players into the discussion. We were a hat on the table many times yesterday. We will close many of those guys next fall. Many of the kids who did commit had not been to or had one visit to Knoxville. Peterson, Woods-Anderson, Banks, Carvin are highly touted players recruited late and landed. 2019-20 have bumper in state talent. I also think we have some real diamonds in the rough that will develop into great players: Flowers, Tillman and Mincey. So, stop the whining and belly aching and get on with supporting these guys.

My reaction when Butch was fired was, dang, we are going to hurt next year whoever comes in. Nothing more, nothing less. I was disappointed yesterday because I DARED TO HOPE that we had a shot at some of those guys because we finally had a coach that DARED TO OFFER them scholarships. Nothing was guaranteed to anyone on this board, ever.

We are not UGA.

They were not coming off a winless conference season.
Or multiple Hc changes over the last 10 years.

Yes. Over and over people stated they were cool with this because it would result in good things for us.

No one anywhere has mentioned a number 1 class, so now you are reaching.

Bringing up Dooley and Butch simply because they failed is lazy. By stating people supported those guys too long are you suggesting it’s time to not support Pruitt?

If I had the choice I would of rather had him here in Knoxville instead of coaching for Alabama; I don’t think anyone would argue that. But acting like that’s the sole reason this class didn’t quite live up to the hype is disingenuous.

I’m not even sure what your exact argument is? You believe Pruitt cares more about Alabama than Tennessee? You think he’s a terrible recruiter? I don’t buy either one of those storylines.

Nope. Just that he was already met here with skepticism as a non-proven HC and assistant and he did nothing to help that by staying and coaching Alabama when he supposedly already announced at Tennessee.

The disappointing recruit haul is just confirmation of that. Not that he would’ve had a Top 5 class had he not have coached the playoffs. However, he now has two marks against him that don’t look good. I think anyone could have lived with one. But a disappointing class IN CONJUNCTION WITH it being perceived that he could’ve at least made it look a bit better on the surface that he had two feet in TN and not one in AL at the same time, that would’ve been an easier pill to swallow after yesterday.

I think you're the one reaching. I don't think anyone was selling this as "good for us" just that we'd get some recognition. That was simply a byproduct of the situation. If you have specifics of what 'good things' you or others were expecting, I'm all ears.

You said 'no one does it'. You didn't give stipulations so I gave just one example that it happens.

You can argue that Tennessee's circumstances were dire, but then you'd also have to use that as a reason the recruiting rankings weren't up to the expectations of some.

Still, we finished with the #20 class, not the #50.

PLEASE stop making gross generalizations to the effect that everyone shares your opinions. I believe that if you read back through this mess you will understand that you are greatly outnumbered. Didn't like Kiffin as a hire, had to dig to find things to like about Dooley and Jones. Do not have that issue with this coach. The Jackson Lampley letter written AFTER CJP was part of a NC for Alabama is all that you should know about what the kids think about him.

There were 232 D1 teams with recruiting classes lower than ours. 108 FBS teams that did worse than we did. We only have 16 to go to break into the top 5. He gained 40 spots in 8 weeks (or as AV would say he could get number 30 with his eyes closed so lets say he went 10 spots in 8 weeks), I think with 52 weeks to recruit that puts us just about where we need to be.

I guess it's much more bitter of a pill to swallow for you than me. Butch was generally regarded as a good recruiter and this class topped Butch's first haul.

I also think the early signing period played a big factor. Most were pleased with what we did in the early signing period, and we only had eight spots left to fill yesterday. Sure I would have loved a couple more 4-5 stars in that group, but it's not as bad as you and some others are making it out to be.

Besides making you feel better, there's no proof that working the phones from Bama instead of working the phones from here made any difference. How much difference do you think it would have made? You think we snag a couple of five stars with those few extra days? I don't think it made much difference.

With these final eight spots, Pruitt got a bunch of highly rated recruits on campus. He missed on several of them. Maybe he could have lowered his expectations some, but I'm not sure we'd have been better off.

You don't like that he coached in the championship game, I can understand that. You're not alone. But the arguments beyond that just don't have much merit.

There are fans that need to understand that at this point, being Tennessee isn't good enough. Gen Z grew up with a mediocre Tennessee team. A decade of mediocrity and coming off the worst season in UT history and a nationally recognized dabacle of a hiring search makes the recruiting class Pruitt pulled together a miracle.

People hate Alabama, understandably, and are still throwing tantrums over Pruitt choosing to stay for the championship game, which is fine, but this really isn't about recruiting imo.

Many on here were talking up what the coverage of him would do for us. I'm not digging it up, it was said often.

You gave an example. Nice. Apples and Twinkies are each examples of food, but also extremely different. UGA and Samrt did it, you caught me. Terrible example but you got one.

We finished 20. Yea! Behind UGA, UF, and USC according to some. That is mediocre at best.

I'll say this: if some of you think this recruiting class is a reason for concern, then so be it. I'm perfectly fine with that take. Pruitt might not be head coaching material. He wasn't my first choice.

But to act outraged over this and blame others for choosing to still support the guy after two months on the job is some next level trolling.

You just said nothing besides:

'i don't know'

'you got me'

'rabble rabble'

I know and I am probably being more of an ass than usual because of it. I grew up there, only knew Bama until I was out of HS, was on the field with the Bear, and have a lot of fond memories there. My family is still there. I don't see them as the great evil that most do. I see them as a mountain to climb and once we do we will beating a lot of people that we aren't right now.

I definitely can agree with this. A guy who wasn't from Bama wouldn't be getting this level of vitriol.

I'd probably hate them more if we were better. But as bad as our last ten years has been, I can't get too worked up about what anybody else is doing.

Bama will always be our traditional rival, but I have to admit my hatred of division rivals UGA and UF take precedence right now. I know many will disagree with that.

Weak of you.

He failed on NSD. Finishing behind UF and USC. I don't even count UGA. Because that was not realistic.

But he failed.

I think 'weak' is continuing to bark out nonsense that you're repeatedly having to back peddle from.
